Where does most of the breakdown of your food take place?
Digestion takes place mainly in the small intestine by pancreatic enzymes eg trypsin or pancreatic lipase. but also a small amount takes place in the stomach by stomach enzymes eg pepsin or gastric lipase. of the lipase's pancreatic lipase is far more important in digestion of fats that gastric lipase. note that small amounts of starch digestion also takes place in the mouth due to the actions of amylase which is found in saliva. This action is short lived as the amylase action is abolished by the low pH of the stomach. No digestion takes place in the large intestine (aka the colon) as this is mainly for absorption of water and electrolytes.
What does it mean when you throw up blood and stomach acid?
Part of vomit will always be stomach acid because it's naturally produced in the stomach as a part of digestion. However, throwing up blood can be a sign of damage to the trachea/esophagus/stomach/liver/duodenum, ruptured stomach ulcers, liver disorders.. the list is long. Basically if you throw up blood and your throat isn't hurting (like it's cut) get to hospital (quickly if any significant amount - ruptured ulcers can kill quickly). In any case - seek medical advice immediately.
Does digestion take place in the alimentary tube?
It is asumed as no. Even when the amount of food decreases along the way to stomach, it is still a no, here are the reasons:
-- Digestion does not take place in the gullet as gullet does not produce any digestive juice.
-- The reason why there are a decrease amount of food in gullet is because you swallow down saliva and saliva is a form of digestive juice.
In addition, Another name for the gullet is "esophagus".
How long is the digestion process?
After food is chewed it takes 5-10 seconds for it to pass down the esophagus and into the stomach, where it spends 2-6 hours being partially digested. Final digestion and nutrient absorption occur in the small intestine over a period of 5-6 hours. In 12-24 hours, any undigested material passes through the large intestine, and feces are expelled through the anus.
More then likely, you have systemic candida. That is an overgrowth of candida albicans in your gut from poor diet. If you eat a lot of sugar, carbs, and processed foods that will cause it. Also, if you have been on antibiotics for a long time, that could be the culprit.
Partially digested food is called?
if the food is already has gone through the stomach then it is chyme
Is food being digested in the stomach a physical change?
digesting food is a chemical change because-
1)it is irreversible and permanent.
2)it involves heat change(heat energy is evolved).
3)the final products cant be changed into original form by simple physical methods.
4)C6H12O6=co2+h2o+heat energy
What are the major parts in the digestive system?
THE MUCOSA LINING is the most important component of the gastrointestinal tract. If healthy, it allows a safe environment for the functioning of all aspects, which may range from being a homebase to the protective friendly bacteria to being a safe haven for where absorption of nutrients can take place, to being a protective lining that prevents unnecessary damage to the underlying connective tissue.
What do fungi secrete to digest food?
Fungi use extracellular digestion. They must obtain preformed organic molecules (nutrients) from the environment. The fungus will secrete enzymes to hydrolyze complexes into simpler molecules - which are then absorbed. Once inside, the simpler molecules can be used for energy or to synthesize larger molecules.
How does the articulatory system work?
When sounds are produced, all the 3 systems work together. Air is pumped out of the lungs (respiratory system) and it passes through the vocal cords (laryngeal system) and reach the oral cavity (articulatory system) and finally sounds are produced. So in this way all the 3 systems work together.
Why do you take Milk of Magnesia for indigestion?
Milk of magnesia, Mg(OH)2 is used to cure indigestion because it is basic and indigestion is acidic.
What opening at the end of the digestive tract in which solid wastes are eliminates.?
it is the rectum;)
What kind of polysaccharide cannot be digested by human beings?
Humans cannot break down cellulose because it contains beta glucose and the enzymes that humans have cannot break down beta glucose.
What is defenses does the digestive system have against pathogen?
saliva,enzymes,hydrochloric acid solution, and mucus.
Yes, fructose, the sugar found in fruits, is a carbohydrate that can be digested.
Is salivary amylase mechanical or chemical digestion?
no, amylase is for carbohydrates. For proteins it's protease :)
Which glands help digest starch?
Glands aren't responsible directly for the breaking down of starch. The enzyme that is responsible for the digestion of starch is amylase. This enzyme is produced by the salivary glands in our mouth - salivary amylase. It's also made by the pancreas - pancreatic amylase.
What fruits contain enzymes that will digest protein?
Hi,
Fruits can be a good source of protein, though they tend to provide less than vegetables, beans, and legumes. When looking for protein, dried fruits and berries are best. Peas, beets, banana, apricots, nuts, corn, lentils, blackberries etc.
Are the digestive systems of a rabbit different from humans?
Yes, rabbits do have a different digestive system from humans. They are herbivores so they possess a much longer large intestine for digesting cellulose while humans being omnivores lack this feature.
