If you are handy you can acquire the equipment second hand for almost nothing otherwise if you have to buy new it may not be such a good deal. There is a lot of systems out there that people would let you have just for the taking. My dish is probably 25 years old and I found a 4dtv receiver for $200. I get about 30 channels and pay about $64 a year. The picture and sound are top notch.

The Parental Control passcode can be reset remotely by DirecTV customer support.
However, there are a few caveats.
- Your receiver must be connected to the phone line in order for DirecTV to gain access and reset the passcode.
- You must be able to prove that you are the owner of the DirecTV account.
- It can take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours to take affect.
Call the DirecTV customer support line. Tell them that you have forgotten your parental control passcode and request to have it reset. Expect the customer support representative to ask for the last 4 numbers of your social security number and/or credit card number. They will not, under any circumstances, reset the code if you can't prove that you are the account holder.

You could also completely reset your receiver back to system defaults.
In your menu, under "System Settings" select "Reset," and then select "Reset Everything". That will solve your problem, as it will erase all previous settings and you will have to go through the set up process again.

Just to clarify on the answers given. The LNBs are different for DISH Network and DTV along with the receivers. The LNB and receiver takes the signal from the satellite and gives you your signal on your TV. As stated, you can't use different receivers and LNB from different companies. The dish outside does not matter, just the LNB and receiver.

Shop At Home- Does not answer the mail, or phone, or email. No they are not. Heaven forbid if you have a problem. You would think you were trying to contact the Pope, while only trying to reach a SAH customer service supervisor. Some products are better than others. I have purchased 3rd party graded coins, which were fine. The opinion was not subjective, it was established by NGC or PCGS. My biggest problem with SAH is an item I purchased and never received just prior to their sale to Jewelry TV from Scripps. I have never received the NGC MS-70 Gold American coin. Nor did I ever receive a refund. The company does not back, cover or otherwise respond to anything the company did before the sell. Others, like myself, never received what they ordered and customer service refuses to let you even speak to a supervisor. Shame on them! Tony

I just purchased a 32" LCD Viore TV from Kmart and have comcast. I tried every possible combination on the comcast remote withoutsuccess.
Finally the only option I could find that would allow me to use one remote for both devices is a learning remote (mines a sony, paid around $20 for it) .
The sony had the code for my scientific altantic cable box. I had to teach the remote all the controls for the TV.
Works great and now I don't have to worry about breaking or losing the original remote. In additon to learning the functions, I programed the remote to turn both on with one keystroke, use the volume on the tv and all other keys with the cable box. Sucks that the TV has such a non typical remote, and that the TV remote will not operate a cable box like my Vizeo tv remote does. I would not have bought it if I would have know.

According to their Tech Support some of their primary internal components are manufactured by Samsung and that the Samsung codes will work with all universal (cable, satellite) remotes and Viore TV's. This is for a current model purchased black Friday 2010, so your mileage may vary.

Yes the Samsung (VIORE) Codes do work for the scientific Atlanta cable boxes! I bought 2 of the Viore Flat screens and the Samsung code is the same.
