medical model of disability focuses on the disability and expects the individual to be searching for a cure, and are overcoming a personal tragedy. This model focuses on what the individual cannot do rather than what they can.

social model of disability focuses on society as being disabling, barriers within society are the cause of disability these can be physical, cultural attitudinal.

Some do and some don't, it all depends on the disabilities they have.

Holistic mean looking at whole person, not just the disability part of them. A holistic model is taking into account the person's body, which includes any disease or disability, their mind, emotions and spiritual life and should be taken into account and seen as a whole.

The Americans with Disabilities Act covers all Americans with a readily identifiable and conceivable disability, as defined in the Act. It applies to all Americans with a disability, and protects them through its umbrella of coverage against any and every form of discrimination.

Muscles are meant to be used. When muscles are not used they can atrophy, or become weak and non functional. Those that are physically handicap often have difficulty maintaining the mobility necessary for sustaining muscle. Because of this they are susceptible to muscular atrophy. Being physically active is very important for both maintaining muscle that they already have and also to build new muscle. Also, things like therapy and exercise can help with range of motion which increases the types of tasks the physically handicapped can perform.

There is no benefit to having a disability. Whether you have a physical or mental disability your life will be tough and full of incredible struggles and challenges. Both types of disabilities have their own unique lifestyles and challenges, each individual disability is a unique condition in and of itself, and even the lives of two people with the same condition can be drastically different because of their location or access to resources.

When thinking just in terms of finances alone physical disabilities require more money allocated to things like equipment and therapy while mental disabilities require funding for mental health services and possible medications. There is no way to judge which is better because both disability groups have a multitude of variables to consider.

Kelly Marie contacted Gullian-Barre Syndrome which usually begins in the legs as a form or paralysis and then often spreads to other parts of the body.

Fortunately Kelly Marie was able to limit her paralysis to her legs only and did regain limited use with intense therapy. The last I saw about her indicated that she was able to stand on her legs but could move them, but is able to move about on crutches. Since she, like I is able to get about on her crutches, I would not say that she is disabled.

well my sister has downs and its very hard to understand. first off you will have to understand the others will not. they might be picked on because there different. You will have to take it with pride because that's something that can not be stopped. medical wise you will have to watch they are pron for some things that others are not. like weight is a big one. another thing is that they learn slowly and might only be able to learn the basics. so if they do something wrong it will take them longer to understand that it is wrong. they will most likely through a fit over the little things. one big thing i realized is with my sister needs a routine and if it is messed up she will though a fit and just be nasty till she realizes that it will not happen.

So basicly I trying to say is that it is best to get there normal routine set and plan your life around it. a child with disabilities is hard but can be the high light of your life. I love my sister so much and love to hang out with her then anyone else in my life. She is always full of love. Most children are that have disabilities.

I would say congenital would be something one is born with or inherit. Acquired perhaps due to maybe an accident.

Yes there is, Disabled people can play normal Table Tennis to but it is better if they played the disabled one.

Well, I'm sure there are many, but the one that immediately comes to mind is rape. Women with certain mental or physical disabilities are far more vulnerable to rape than non-disabled women are.

It is for me. It is such a fundamental part of the skeletal system...my pain started there and runs all the way to my neck. Life is a daily struggle. Tell "them" to bring it on, I'm not going down with out a fight!
