What happens when a dog drinks sewer water?
Your dog may be just fine. If he starts getting diarrhea or loss of appetite, or any other indicators of illness, get him checked by the Vet or just keep up with routine Vet exams and worming.
There are some parasites in dirty water which dogs and people can get. Giardia comes to mind, for one.
It is treatable but your dog won't necessarily get this.
Another thing passed in dirty standing water is leptospirosis. This is something that there is a vaccine against. Again, it's not something that your dog will necessarily get from drinking contaminated water. Both are more prevalent in warmer climates.
You need to check the dogs teeth since the smell might be coming from poor oral hygiene. Have the vet examine to be sure there is no tooth abscess, and get their teeth cleaned by a vet on a regular basis.
If the smell is coming from their ears, this could be caused by ear mites or a yeast infection, both of which cause a strong odor. If so, you need a vet to determine which it is, then use an ear cleaning solution made for the specific purpose. One made for ear mites won't treat a yeast infection, nor will one made for a yeast infection treat ear mites. Your vet will give you the proper cleaning solution, depending on the source of the odor.
If the smell is coming from their coat, check for sores, there might be infection which can be cleaned with peroxide or soap and water, then cover with antibiotic cream. To keep the dog from licking the medicine off, cover the area with a wrap around bandage, or spray area with no lick spray that you get from a pet store. But if the infection affects a large area, or if it's from a puncture wound, have a vet examine it to see what the cause is. And if the infection does not show improvement within a day or two, take it to the vet!
If it is just the coat, bathe the dog to remove dirt and odors. Dogs need bathing at least once a month with a good quality dog shampoo. Never use a shampoo that is not specifically made for dogs.
A bit more:
A common cause for bad odor coming from a dog is their anal glands. The glands should naturally express the fluid from them when the dog has a bowel movement, but there are times when they don't. This results in a very foul odor, which seems to be bad breath, but is actually from the anal glands.
You can have your vet show you how to express the fluid from the glands yourself (do NOT try it unless you have your vet's permission after he shows you how). Some professional dog groomers will do this too, but first make sure that is what the odor is from, and verify they are qualified before you allow them to do it.
In some cases, when the dog has to have the glands expressed on a frequent basis, they are surgically removed by the vet. I've had to have them removed from some of my dogs, and there were no problems or after effects of any kind. And it solved the bad odor problem.
What will happen if you cut the dogs tail?
No, you can't personally. There are some breeds, such as Dobermans who have their tails shortened by the vet. I have also heard it affects the dogs behavior. You should consult your Vetrinarian.
Otherwise, leave your dog alone.
Why does your dog whine and shake?
He most likely has an ear problem, possibly an infection. He could also have ear mites, a bug bite, a tick, or cheat grass in his ear. You should take him to a vet for proper diagnosis and treatment.
First of all, have you ever heard the saying ''All dogs are like their owners?'' Ive found this statement to be true. If your fat and you eat fat food, then you are more likely to feed your dog fat food, try NOT giving it your food and giving it Bakers dry food? And for god sake, both of you get some exercise! Sort your selves out! Either that or just kill your dog.
Its probably dead anyway as it died of OBESITY.
When do puppies open eyes and start to hear?
Newborn puppies tend to open their eyes from 2 to 3 weeks from the time they were born. My best friend's dog just had 11 puppies, and they were goldendoodles, so it depends on what kind of dog you have.
Yes, cooked potatoes are safe for dogs to consume, as long as they have not been seasoned with salt, butter, garlic, or onions, as those are all detrimental to a dog's body. Raw potatoes are not safe for dogs to consume, so be sure to keep them away from any potato plants in a garden, or those bought at a grocery store.
How do you keep your dog from digging out of the fence?
== == Well, that would depend on how the dog is getting out of the yard. Let's examine: 1. Do you have a fence? - No, then get one. Yes, refer to next question.
2. Is the dog digging under the fence? - Yes. One devious way in which I have stopped my dogs from doing the very same thing is to dig a trench underneath the fence. Place concrete blocks in the trench and fill. Most times the block will act as enough of a deterent after their claws scratch it a few times. 3. Is the dog climbing over the fence? - Yes. Get a video camera, tape this and send it to a home video show! Once you have done this, find out what your city's regulations are regarding the installation of a higher fence. If it is not possible, consider installing runners in your backyard. Clip the dog's leash to the runner when it is allowed outside for its bathroom break. Remember: It is not a good idea to leave a dog clipped to a runner unattended. Make sure the dog has been fixed. This will cut down on the "urge" to leave the yard. VERY IMPORTANT: Spend $15-20 and get the dog microchipped!!! It is an excellent way to have a lost pet returned to you.
A male dog can mate as soon as he realizes that his drive for mating can happen. His testosterone kicks in and he is off to a beautiful start no matter the age.
What should you do if you male dog gets stuck to your female dog?
If you have a female dog that's not fixed, then you will run into this problem. For the male dog will want to "reproduce" to make the new puppy generation. If you want to have pups, then this is fine, if you don't, then I suggest you try to get your dog fixed.
I have two poodles and one cat and they are the best of friends. Poodles are very loyal and mischievous characters and they require a lot of attention. They also have the added benefit of being hypoallergenic. Poodles seem to accept most animals but as the previous posted said they do require time and special training.
Poodles who grow up with other dogs or any pets together have the chance to enjoy their company otherwise they may need some time and special training to help him accept a newcomer.
Because they might have been holding it in for so long and some just don't make it outside. Its probably because they are not potty trained enough. If you want a free trial offer on dog training secrets, go to the link below.

Why does my dog roll in dog poo?
Dogs are attracted to various strong scents and odors and like to "wear" them, much as we scent ourselves with perfume. As far as licking or eating feces; some dogs have this habit and some don't. The ones who do seem to like the taste of it (probably because they can smell the undigested food in it).
Can dogs feel things at the end of their whiskers?
a dog wags its tail only when something can see it.if someone gives it a bowl of food,it might wag as a thank you or something like that.if a bowl of food drops from thin air and the dogs lonely,it wouldn't wag.if a dog nips another dog and wags its tail, the other dog would know it's playing.
Can a male dog sense when a female dog is about to go into heat?
Dogs have glands at the base of their tails that give off pheremones the tell other dogs their age, sex, and if they are feeling like making friends or not. That is why dogs sniff each other's butts when they meet
Why do dogs froth from the mouth?
There are different reasons as to why the dog could be foaming.
1. Rabies, is he/she up to date on vaccines, Has he/she been in contact with wildlife recently.
2. Have you applied any topical medications recently. Flea/Tick preventative or topical antibiotic (spray/cream) from either pet store or veterinary clinic/hospital
3. Have you given anything by mouth lately that you have never given before, either prescribed by a vet or over the counter.
4. Your dog may have been trying to bite or pick up a toad. Toads will squirt a noxious liquid when they feel threatened. This liquid will cause a dog to froth at the mouth, even after drinking. Use milk to help neutralize the effects.
After a puppy is born how long does it take before the eyes open?
It takes anywhere from a week to two weeks and when they first open they are blue. If there is any drainage, take a soft cotton ball with warm water and gently wipe away excess drainage.
All dogs usually open their eyes around 10-14 days, but sometimes it may take a little while longer. And a lot of the time they don't realize they need to open, so they just keep them shut. However, do not try and pull them open! I don't know for sure what it would do, but I wouldn't test it. They will open soon enough, but if they don't by about 3 or 4 weeks, I would take them to get looked at.
Another answer
Light drainage is normal, but if it continues for more than 24 hrs., then you need to take a soft cotton ball soaked in saline solution (1/4 tsp salt in 1 cup of distilled water) to wipe gently. After area around eye is cleaned, 1 or 2 drops of the saline solution in affected eye 3 times a day for 2 days; should clear any bacteria causing the irritation. DO NOT use a washcloth as this is too harsh and may contain bacteria to cause an infection resulting in permanent blindness.
Generally a puppy's eyes open at around 9 days or a day or two later; any sooner could be harmful to the puppy's sight, and infection could occur. If it is close to 9 days, give or take a day or two, all is well. Just let it happen naturally. Sometimes, the eyes look as though they are opening at the center, but the sides or one side can still look like it's glued shut. LEAVE IT ALONE! This is natural. They will open on their own, in their own time, but again, it is usually at about 9 days.
And yes, their eyes are blue at first.
Answer:
2 weeks is not too long. I have been breeding terriers for years and they never open before 2 weeks. They start opening at like 2 1/2 weeks and all of them are open by 3 weeks. I have a litter right now that is 13 days old right now and none of their eyes are open right now.
Answer:
It varies slightly by breed of dog but the generic answer is 7 days to 14 days.
So 2 weeks isn't too long. And I do agree however to use cotton balls rather than washcloths. Also keep the lighting relatively dim in the beginning stages of them opening their eyes. All they see are shadows and light at first.
It takes two weeks.
Do house cats cover their poop when let out or dogs do it too?
Usually it is declawed cats who won't cover their waste because they don't like to dig much after they are declawed. It is also painful to a cat to declaw it. If your cat is not declawed, then maybe it was separated from it's mom at too young of an age to have learned to cover it's waste from her, or maybe the cat had a declawed mom.
What is the best dog to have for a pet?
Just my opinion, but my favorite breed is Shiba Inu, but they are difficult and require a lot of training.
Standard Poodles are supposed to easy to train, smart, hypoallergenic, and great dogs though, and I'll probably get one as my next dog.
Can female dogs have puppies without a male dog?
No.
Some animals (including reptiles and birds) can have offspring without males, in the process called parthenogenesis. However, this is not known to be possible in mammals such as dogs. (The process has never been seen to occur naturally, but has been done artificially with mice.)
What kid of dogs dont shedd a lot and are big dogs?
