It is about a young girl whose family is very poor in Tennessee, the setting is in the later months of the year. Her mother gets a box of old cloths that someone gave them to make the young girl a coat. These cloths were of many different colors, but her mother sewed the coat together with all the love she could give. So the little girl would not be cold or get sick from the bad weather in the late fall months. The girl loved the coat just because her mother had made it, and she knew her mother made it with love. As school started up in the fall, she wore it to school. Since all the other kids had newer coats, they teased the girl for her coat, but she did not care because her mother made her coat for her out of love for her. It is about the girl being okay with what she has because of the love that went into it and not longing for those same things as her peers.
