Here in Canada besides the regular doughnut with the hole in the center and the jelly filled/sugar coated treat we have what is called a fritter. These are approximately hand sized irregular shaped, fried cakes with various fruits like apples or blueberries blended into the dough and lightly glazed. These are very popular with a large double double coffee at the local Tim Horton's.
