How do you open a torrent ebook?
When copyrighted books are posted online without the consent of the publishers, then they are illegally posted. WikiAnswers does not support this practice.
First, let me mention some basics. The extension of a file, characters appearing after the period "." of a file, denotes the type of that file.
Once one double-clicks on a file, the operating system detects and loads an appropriate software, if it is installed on the particular computer, to process the file.
When one clicks on a ".torrent" file, for that matter, the operating system locates the appropriate software to process the file. The most common software to process a ".torrent" file is the BitTorrent client, www.bittorrent.com.
Say, one clicks on a file titled "Being and Nothingness - Jean-Paul Sartre[ebook].torrent", assuming that a bittorrent client is installed on the computer, the operating system will load the load the client and the client will process the file and download it on-to the computer.
Once a file is downloaded on the computer, it will not remain a ".torrent" file any longer, but retain its original extension it was uploaded with. So the original extension could, for example, be ".pdf", ".txt", ".rtf", ".doc", ".lit", ".rar", ".iso", ".zip", ".ace", and so on.
When one clicks on the downloaded file, the operating system again will determine, by the extension of the file, which software to load that will process the file that has been clicked on.
So, say, the clicked file has an extension ".doc", the operating system will find Microsoft Office Word or Open Office Word or another compatible software to process or load the file.
Simplistically, the process looks like:

Say, the original file has the extension ".doc", the process , using the above analogy, will look like:
File.doc - File.torrent - File.doc
Once the ".torrent" is downloaded on the computer, it is not a ".torrent" file anymore but retains its original extension, ".doc" in this case.
After the file is downloaded successfully, an appropriate software is required to open this file.
Caution: Be extremely cautious if the extension of an ebook file is an executabe, ".exe", as this can also be a virus that can harm your computer.
