Seraphim, or Seraph, is an angel that is described as very tall, with six wings and four heads, one for each of the cardinal directions. It is said that to look upon this fiery angel would mean being instantly burned to death.

The only absolute about the setting is the time; the first line tells us that "once upon a midnight dreary" so it is around midnight, while the second verse says it was a "bleak December." No direct clues however exist to signal where the plot is occurring, but one can assume that by the use of a "chamber door" that it is a fairly high class neighborhood.

In "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe, the refrain "Nevermore" is repeated throughout the poem to emphasize the narrator's sense of loss and despair. It serves as a haunting reminder of the raven's presence and the finality of death, adding to the poem's dark and melancholic tone. The original story that Poe adapted was a story he was writing about his dying wife Virginia. When he met with Dickens, who had lost and stuffed a cherished pet (the raven from Dickens' novel Barnaby Rudge (1841)), Poe must have been inspired to use a talking raven for his own poem.

The poem is a valentine to Frances Sargent Osgood. Poe hid her name within the poem.

The first letter of the first line is the first letter of her name.

The second letter of the second line is the second letter of her name.

The third letter of the third line is the third letter of her name.

And so on, and so on.

In the first form of the poem, Poe accidentally mispelled her middle name but corrected it in a later version.

Poe was given the last name Allan by his foster parents, John and Frances Allan. However, his birth name was Edgar Poe, and he later adopted Poe as his middle name as well as his literary pseudonym.

Poe was found in 'great distress' on the street on 3 October 1849, and he died at Washington College Hospital in Baltimore, MD, on 7 October 1849. There is some disagreement about the cause of death; some attribute it to cooping, delirium tremens, others to heart disease, epilepsy, syphilis, meningeal inflammation, consumption (tuberculosis), cholera, even rabies. The true cause will probably never be known.

In Poe's tale, an unnamed narrator, estranged from his family and country, sets sail as a passenger aboard a cargo ship from Batavia. Some days into the voyage, the ship is first becalmed then hit by a Simoon-which, in Poe's story, is a combination of a sand storm, typhoon, and hurricane-that capsizes the ship and sends everyone, except the narrator and an old Swede, overboard. Driven southward by the magical Simoon towards the South Pole, the narrator's ship eventually collides with a gigantic black galleon, and only the narrator manages to scramble aboard. Once the new ship arrives, the narrator finds outdated maps and useless navigational tools throughout the ship. Also, he finds it to be manned by elderly crewmen who are unable to see him; he steals writing materials from the captain's cabin to keep a journal (the "manuscript" of the title) which he resolves to cast into the sea. This ship too continues to be driven southward, and he notices the crew appears to show signs of hope at the prospect of their destruction as it reaches Antarctica. The ship enters a clearing in the ice where it is caught in a vast whirlpool and begins to sink into the sea.

The rising action of "Berenice" by Edgar Allan Poe includes the development of Egaeus's obsession with his cousin Berenice, her illness and mysterious death, and Egaeus's mental deterioration as he becomes fixated on her teeth. This leads to the disturbing climax where Egaeus uncovers the truth about Berenice's fate.

The literary term Poe uses in his description of Prince Prospero is characterization. He carefully crafts his character's traits of being happy, dauntless, and sagacious to show the reader the prince's personality and qualities.

John Allan was loose. Meaning that he had affairs with other women and got several pregnate at the same time.

Edgar loved his foster mother so much. He always resented John.

John never accepted him as his own son. He never adopted him.

When millionaire John Allan died he didn't leave a penny for Edgar.

An example of rising action in Edgar Allan Poe's "The Black Cat" is when the narrator becomes increasingly disturbed by his wife's fear and hatred of their beloved black cat, Pluto. As the narrator's sanity deteriorates, he begins to mistreat the cat, eventually leading to a violent and irreversible act that sets the stage for the story's climax.

Edgar Allan Poe's writing is breathtaking. He created world's of mystery and imagination that you cannot find in most writers now. While his stories and poems may not incite the same feelings of fear or horror in today's society, rest assured they captured the imagination of many when he was in his element.

well Edger Allan Poe was rather violent in all of his poems. i'm sure there are some peaceful ones but most of them are kind of violent. he was a very talented and dark writer.

In the rising action of "The Tell-Tale Heart," the narrator's obsession with the old man's eye grows, leading to meticulous planning of the murder. The tension increases as the narrator stalks the old man's room every night, waiting for the right moment to strike. This culminates in the murder itself, as the narrator's agitation reaches a peak.

Edgar Allan Poe had complex relationships with women. His work often portrays female characters as tragic figures or objects of desire. Personally, Poe had a troubled marriage with his cousin Virginia Clemm Poe, but he also had strong friendships with several prominent women writers of his time.
