There aren't really any stages to being emo. Emo was originally a style of music, but it has become a style and culture.

Emo is short for the word Emotional. If someone calls another emo, it generally can mean that you have lots of emotions. Sometimes in school or outside of school, people call others emo to make fun of them. Personally I hate the word emo when non emotional people use it, because they don't know how to use it the right way. So emo is used to descibe a person who is very emotional.

everyone goes through it. i mean i have for literally my whole life and i still am. life is horrible because there a controlling people, bullies and just all round jackasses. but life is only what you make it so if you believe that it's horrible then it's going to seem worse than it is.

When the term first came about in the Genre of music, yes. It was used instead of saying the whole word but now it's used for a type of group for people and as a music genre.

Cutting yourself is always bad. Is your friend mentally unstable? Kids may call a person like this emo for some reason. I suggest you talk to your friend and tell him to see a therapist. If he is a kid is he being bullied. Take all these things in mind while talking to him.

Well, most of the time, they only eat once a day. They mostly drink Energey drinks, like Monster, Venom, etc. They do eat junk food but they're not addicted, like if most people eat junk food, they start craving it. Emo's control they're selves. They think death is better than life, so they are depressed. If your boyfriend died, then your would probably be depressed and stop eating. I am emo and personally that's how I act.
