well different things cause people to be emo like they dont like the way they look or something bad has happened to them there are different reasons or it can just be there emo because they can.

Many issues they've experienced that they refuse to talk about - family issues, rejected from social circles, feel like they don't belong in society, no friends, abused, poor family, forced to work, no childhood, lost an important person/people in their life, heartbroken, or suffering some sort of diseas, etc.

An "Emo" really is just a confused teenager. The entire Emo subculture is rooted in music. Emo is short for "emotional" or "emotional hardcore." This type of music came about in D.C. in the 80's (before most self-proclaimed emos were even born.) The type of people who listened to this music had common tastes in fashion, and like many other fashion eras, they all began dressing the same way. Now the term Emo is associated more with behavior and style than it is with music. Simply don a pair Converse, a studded belt, head-to-toe black, and angled bangs, and voila--you're an Emo. Of course, there is the debate over real and wannabe Emos, but really they're all the same. They purposely choose to dress a certain way, act a certain way, listen to (or pretend to listen to) certain music, despite what their motives are. Whether their motives are sincere or superficial, all Emos have chosen to conform to a group of people they feel safe with. They would rather be called "weird" than be themselves and think for themselves. The ones that call themselves real Emos look and act (on the surface) like wannabe Emos. The only difference may be that they are truly admirers of the music scene, or that they truly have difficult family lives. Either way, they are all just this generation's subculture.

i find it best if you use a rats tall comb-for teasing, and alot of hair spray and kind really works just make use to use alot! also if you are going for that emo look you should make use your hair has alot of layers and that your hair dress thin out the bottom of your hair.

Listen to your parents, for now. Emo-ish hair looks really silly - even your best friends won't tell you. Well honestly there are short emo hair styles like mine. or there are longier scene type harstyles . emo hair is spikey. and scene is like spikey and big in the back so yeah... and the best way to grow yewr hair out is to use horse shampoo I barrowed my friends for a week at camp because I for got my shampoo in those 7days my hair grew 5inches!

ask for your hair to be cut in short choppy layers, with a sweeping side fringe. Ask them to use a razor to cut your hair as well.

First people DO NOT CUT THEMSELVES BECAUSE THEY ARE EMO. Don't believe all emos cut themselves just because its what real emos do, because its wrong. People cut themselves for multiple reasons

1.Bullying

2.they think hurting themselves will make things right

3.family problems

Emo is a made up word that some person made up, it's just another way of saying... ... " Hey everyone i have problems!" Emo does not mean you cut yourself, Emo does not mean you are suicidal.

Emo is just another word for emotional..... it doesnt mean you always cut yourself or your suicidal, it doesnt mean you have to hide your face with your hair or your an outcast or you hear voices or you need to be in a mental institution, that's just what socioty thinks. what DOES make a person an emo. people are so steroetypical these days.

i tend to wear band tee shirts or black patterned ones, and black drainpipe jeans. i wear DVS skate shoes because they are comfy but converse are also cool. i wear 2 belts also, one leather colourful one on the bottom and a checky studded one on top (generally black and something) i always have my trusty plain black hoody on me (couldn't live without it) and multiple band wristbands (however many, there is no such thing as overkill).
