First in the "sweet spot" where you should be hitting the ball with your stick consistently, near the toe. This is usually where you will see the most wear on your stick. Also I use electric tape to tape mine on the top and bottom of the grip, to prevent tearing and give the grip a longer life.

A hit is when the stick is swung, then strikes the ball with speed. There are four main kinds of hits: a straight drive, a sweep, a tomahawk, or a backhand. A straight drive uses a golf- or cricket-style swing to strike the ball with the head on the forehand (to the right of the player). A sweep is when the player swings their stick almost horizontally and makes contact anywhere on the lower half of the stick. A tomahawk is a drive or sweep using the edge of the stick on either side (however it is illegal on the forehand). A backhand is a hit on the left of the player and requires the stick to be rotated over so the playing side or leading edge is used.

A push pass is where you put the field hockey stick against the ball (as if you had just stopped it) and shove it towards the desired target. When the ball is moving, you should end with your stick facing the target. It should not make a noise like a slap shot does, since you never actually hit the ball.

I was told in 2012 that about 3.2 million sticks are manufactured each year for the North American market, although I haven't yet been able to verify that.

Field Hockey is a very aerobic sport, so it promotes healthy weight, heart health, good metabolism, etc.

It also contributes to good eye/hand coordination and peripheral vision.

• Playing surface: field hockey is played on fields, ice hockey is played on ice. Goals in field hockey are much larger. The field is much larger than the rink, almost 50% further in both dircetions.
• Equipment: field hockey players rarely wear more than a mouthguard and shinguards, while goalkeepers wear some extra padding and a helmet. Ice hockey players wear a lot of protective equipment, including shin- and armpads, helmets, mouthgaurds, chestpads and gloves. • Teams: ice hockey teams can have 20 players, of which 6 play on the ice at any time. Field hockey teams can have 16 players, of which 11 can play on the field at any time. There is no specification on what positions must be included in a field hockey team, while ice hockey rosters have certain proportions that must be either goalkeepers or onice players.
• Rules: ice hockey is considerably more restrictive in how a game may be played, such as restrictions on where the puck can be passed, but comparatively quite violent - bodychecking is allowed as well as other forms of physical contact, and fighting is not considered a major violation. In field hockey, physical contact is very rare, and only occurs in normal contest for the ball (not as an option for making a tackle). the ball can be played in virtually any way that does not cause danger.
• Gameplay: ice hockey features a lot more time stoppages, like many north American sports, than field hockey. A field hockey team cannot choose when they have a timeout either. The ways of moving a ball/puck around are very different; in ice hockey, players may use their hands or skates, while in field hockey, the ball is often raised high above the surface or juggled on the stick.

Polo is played on a field while on horseback with the player hitting the ball with a polo mallet in order for it to get into the goal, whereas in water polo it is played in the water and it has more of a resemblance to netball, except you are only allowed to catch with one hand.

Normally a free hit would be awarded at the point where the ball hit the player (except for within the 5 metre arc, pending new rules), unless there is an advantage to be played. If the player used their feet deliberately though, there is a possibiltity of receiving a green or yellow card and a penalty corner if inside the 23-metres area.

A long corner is awarded when the the ball is played unintentionally over the baseline by the defending team. The long corner is then taken from the 25yard line and level with were the ball went off the backline.

If the long corner terminology is confusing, it should be as it is no longer taken from the corner of the pitch but at the 25yrd line parallel to the baseline, the position of the long corner free hit has changed but the terminology remains the same.

Tricks in Field Hockey differ in so many ways but in general all tricks and skills have to be practiced before they can be done to a good standard. Some tricks or skills take longer to do than others depending on the complexity of the trick, as mentioned before it is all down to practice with regards to mastering the skill.

Field Hockey Tricks all come down to whether you put your mind to it or not. If not, you can't think. If you do, Great!! Top left goal score: edge the ball on top of the stick and do a sweep. Top right goal score: " " Bottom left and right goal score: Sweep with power!! Sweeping: Drag your stick back and and hold it at the top. And bring th estick forward with force.

The physical demands will depend on what level you play. At higher grades, the game is very fast and very intense - some players will literally be drenched in sweat after a game. However, social and lower grades are often a lot easier on the body and are more enjoyable for their slower pace.

the goalie is the hardest position on the field. You get none of the glory and all of the blame in any match. But if you count the use of your hands as a privilege, then you have that. Also, anything you do in your box, WITHIN REASON, is safe. You get to lay out kids and never get called for it!

There are many risks players take stepping on the ice and playing the game of ice hockey. Players can get concussions, broken bones, cuts from skates, etc. I'm a 13 year old girl and i play ice hockey. I did a report on ice hockey and you can get seriously hurt. Girls hockey is different though. In boys hockey you can fight. in girls you cant. People might say boys can get hurt easier because they can hit and fight, but really either gender you can get hurt the same.
