Is field hockey more dangerous then Cricket?

In terms of injuries sustained, field hockey has about 2.5 times more injuries per player than cricket. Field hockey injuries requiring medical attention are in the region of 17 per 100 players per year, while cricket is in the region of 7 per 100 players per year. As a comparison, association football (soccer) is in the region of 28 injuries per 100 players per year.

This is because field hockey is a limited-contact sport, where players are not supposed to come into contact with each other, but because of the nature of the game, contact is inevitable. Cricket is a non-contact sport, meaning the nature of the game results contact between players being near impossible (two batters not looking where they're running or two fielders trying to catch one ball can still collide with each other). In both sport, most of the injuries comes from being hit by a fast-moving ball, or by pulling a muscle/tearing a ligament/twisting an ankle, etc.

What counry did hockey originate from?

Tennis has a long history (deriving from the 'jeu de paume'), but its establishment as the modern sport can be dated to two separate roots. In 1859 Major Thomas Henry Gem, a solicitor, and his friend Batista Pereira, a Spanish merchant, who both lived in Birmingham, England played a game they named "pelota", after a Spanish ball game. The game was played on a lawn in Edgbaston. In 1872 both men moved to Leamington Spa, and with two doctors from the Warneford Hospital, played pelota on the lawn behind the Manor House Hotel (now residential apartments). Pereira joined with Dr. Frederick Haynes and Dr. A. Wellesley Tomkins to found the first lawn tennis club in the world, and played the game on nearby lawns. In 1874 they formed the Leamington Tennis Club, setting out the original rules of the game. The Courier of 23 July 1884 recorded one of the first tennis tournaments, held in the grounds of Shrubland Hall (demolished 1948). In December 1873, Major Walter Clopton Wingfield devised a similar game for the amusement of his guests at a garden party on his estate at Nantclwyd, Wales. He based the game on the older sport of indoor tennis or real tennis ("royal tennis"), which had been invented in 12th century France and was played by French aristocrats down to the time of the French Revolution. According to most tennis historians, modern tennis terminology also derives from this period, as Wingfield borrowed both the name and much of the French vocabulary of royal tennis and applied them to his new game: * Tennis comes from the French tenez, the imperative form of the verb tenir, to hold: This was a cry used by the player serving in royal tennis, meaning "I am about to serve!" (rather like the cry "Fore!" in golf). * Racquet comes from raquette, which derives from the Arabic rakhat, meaning the palm of the hand. * Deuce comes from

What are some good training drills for a field hockey team?

Getting fitness levels up should be about half your total practise as a team, depending on whether you did any preseason fitness training; at least a 10 minute run and stetching. After this, begin with simple passing and hitting, perhaps getting some of those who can do them well to practise aerials, then increasing the complexity of the passing manoevres. Setplays like sideline hits in each half on both sides, long corners, centre and free hits might follow, before moving on to penalty corner tactics. While field players are doing this, the goalie can be warmed by throwing some balls from a distance alternately at each post, high and low, then logging, diving and sliding practise. Then join them in with the long/penalty corners. Afterwards the few involved can continue with penalty strokes if necessary.

In field hockey what is a dangerous hit?

Yes and no. Firstly, there are many ways you can get hurt in field hockey. These can range from regular penalties or fights that break out. Penalties like high-sticking and elbowing can cause many cuts and bruises, which to most seems like an injury. Also, fights can break out. Most deaths from ex-NHL players come from head injuries and when a fight breaks out most likely, the opponent will aim for the head. You can also get hurt if body checking or physical contact is allowed. You could get hit on the head which should always be protected.

(Remember to wear all equipment and hopefully, you can keep yourself injury free!)

What is your role in Hockey position center half?

The inner is a support and link position. They get the ball from the halves or centreforward in order to spread play and create gaps in the defense. After this they can throughpass the ball to a wing or the centreforward for a deflection, pass the ball to a half for them to do the same and possibly make the deflection themselves, can dribble into the circle or give the ball to a centre for them to do this, and are commonly injectors or trappers in penalty corners.

What are composite hockey sticks made of?

Composite, or 1 piece sticks are actually made of 2 pieces. The shaft is hollow, and the blade is inserted into the shaft, then a coating is applied to the stick, making it look like it is made in one piece. The inside is wood and it is fibreglass reinforced. (meaning it is "coated" with fibreglass) The stick is made of fibre mat and resin in a mould, then allowed to set. It is built up layer by layer until roughly finished, then sanded or cut down to the smooth final shape. It is capped at the end and then painted.

Why are fouls called in field hockey?

Common fouls are touching the foot, hacking, touching the back-stick, not being 5 metres and obstruction/interference. Who starts with the ball in hockey?

In most games, a cointoss is held by the umpires shortly before beginning. One captain calls, and if they are correct they can choose between whether to first start or which way they will go in the first half. If they choose a direction, the other team starts the game with a centrepass. If they choose to start the other team chooses the direction. Play is reversed in the second half of play, and the team who did not begin the first begins the second. In some junior or social games or friendlys, one team will just start by common agreement.
