People (myself very much included) have wondered that question for a long, long time. Flies are actually useful, believe it or not. Among other things, adults flies consume dead organic matter (dead plants, animals, etc.) and feces, both of which are things that humans do not want to have to deal with too much, particularly if they are not in their 'proper' places (like for instance, a grave of some kind and the toilet). Flies help take care of that problem. Maggots (fly larva) also feed on feces, decaying matter, etc. On the other hand, flies also carry and transport diseases. I guess you could say that the diseases they carry have caused humans to research and concoct serums and medicines to help prevent the diseases carried by flies and other animals. Because of that research, death from many diseases carried by animals is no longer an issue as we now know how to treat them. While we sometimes may question Him, God does know what He's doing. We just don't always understand it.

Soapy water kills flies because the soap is poisonous to the fly. When the fly lands on the soap, the soap will be absorbed into their system. This eventually ends the fly's life.

No, Pledge or Febreeze will not kill a fly. A fly can be killed with fly spray such as Raid. They can also be killed with a flyswatter.

Yes. To test this, put a small piece of leftover meat in a plastic cup and leave it out for flies. They will lay their eggs in it. After a few days, cover the meat with water. After a total of eight days, maggots will crawl out of the meat and escape as flies into the air. If you don't want flies, put the cup into a plastic grocery bag, tie the "handles" of the bag and dispose of it after seven days total. Good luck in ridding us of flies. BTW, each fly lays about 150 eggs at a time. Doing the above, early in the season, prevents perhaps a hundred thousand flies by September. Their life cycle is pretty short from being laid as an egg to laying 150 eggs at a time.

As with most insects and their larvae, they are mostly protein and a good source of it. While you would have to consume a large number of them, they are quite nutritious.

Flies lay their eggs in it. When the maggots are boring they have a Hearty eating place. Very sick but also very true.
