The best way to get shiny hardwood floors is to sand and refinish them and use a glossy (or semi gloss finish). Not only will your floors look glossy, but they will stay glossy looking even after you clean them. (If you floors are in good condition and don't have any scratches, an alternative is to screen & recoat where you just add another coat of polyurethane and you choose a glossy (or semi gloss finish).

Please note that some of the products out there that you can rub on and claim to give you a glossy finish will only give your floors a temporary sheen and that they use waxes and oils that will actually damage the finish/polyurethane on the floor and cause to refinish your floors sooner.

It depends on the thickness of the top layer of your flooring. Engineered wood floors are generally like plywood; they are several layers of wood pressed together, with the grain going in opposite directions for each layer.

You can refinish the top layer only - but you must have enough thickness available to sand through the sealer finish and into the bare wood beneath, without going all the way through that layer. Generally, 1/8" should be sufficient.

Remove a floor vent or transition strip, and you'll be able to see the edge profile of your flooring.

First, find the square footage of an 18" x 18" tile. 18 x 18 = 324 square inches. There are 144 square inches in a square foot (12" x 12" = 144). So divide 324 by 144 to get the square feet per tile. 324 / 144 = 2.25 sq ft per tile.

You have 1800 square feet, using tiles that are 2.25 sq ft each. 1800 / 2.25 = 800 tiles.

Generally, you will want to add from 5% to 10% for waste, depending on your layout (is it one big room, or several smaller rooms with lots of cutting?) (are you doing a checkerboard pattern, running bond (brick), or diagonal?) and your skill level. If in doubt, add 10% to be safe.

800 tiles + 10% --- that's 800 x 1.1 = 880 tiles.

to market. The best way to get an answer is to put an ad on Craigslist

telling what you want installed, the more detail you can give the better the quote will be... ie..

"3/4 inch, unfinished oak hardwood over wood subfloor,

new construction, 400 sq feet, need it done this week, paying cash.".

The lesson here is that the more detail you put in the ad, the better the quote.. You will have to understand that not every installer has Golden Hands, some are thieves & butchers, so you may not always want the low bidder..

If you are talking about a house, the attic would be on the third floor as you have a ground floor (first floor), then a second floor (upstairs) and then a third floor (the attic), However if it was a bungalow, it would be on the second floor because bungalow's don't have an upstairs.

That depends on how many square feet are in each carton. Every model is different. Some will have 12 square feet, others 27 square feet, or anywhere in between.

Your space, 13 x 13, is 169 square feet. (13 x 13 = 169). But you will need to add from 5-10% extra for waste material - so if I were you, I'd buy enough laminate to cover 186 square feet at least.

Nope, not good fro the wood and really not good for the finish. Wood LOVES moisture but moisture damages wood, so you should really be cleaning your wood floor with very minor amounts of an oily based cleaner, NOT with anything with water or steam.

Unless they are no-wax tiles, you first clean them thoroughly with ammonia (diluted), then place a coat of floor polish or floor wax on them. After the first coat dries, apply a second coat. With each coat applied, the floor will be shinier.

You can't. Just about any flooring except carpet can be slippery. You may want to place mats in traffic areas such as entrances and in the kitchen where water is likely to get on the floor. People put carpet runners in halls and on stairs. And don't walk around in your socks!
