On your 91 capri you changed your timimg belt and now it rubs against the back plate why?

if you did it yourself, you either got the wrong belt,(too wide), something is loose on the belt gears or belt idler pulley, or if you had a shop do it, take it back!!! shops are used to "comebacks" due to techs trying to multi-task as fast as they can to get that big commission check, and usually make mistakes that they will deny.

What was the ford capri going to be originally called?

Everything you need to know about Ford/Mercury Capri

Ford/Mercury Capri 1989 - 1994
Styled by italians, built by Australians with Japanese Mechanicals. The Ford/Mercury Capri came about because Ford Australia (APAO) had an interst in building & marketing an export project vehicle. The initial approv...al and funding was given in 1984, to develop a small front wheel drive, two seat convertible. All Capri's were assembled in Melbourne Australia & maarketed in Australia and the United States.

The Production Capri was based on the successful 1983 Ford of Europe, Fiesta-based Ghia designed 2 seat convertible called the Barchetta (little boat). The Capri exterior was styles by Ford's "Ghia" design studio. The engineering, the interior & folding roof were done by "Ital design" an Italian engineering/design firm. The Mechanicals (engine, transaxle, brakes, suspension & steering) were manufactured & supplied by "Mazda Motors", a Ford Asian Partner.

There were two models, the base version and the turbo charged XR2. Both has DOHC 1.6 Litre engines. The base version was rated at an even 100hp AT 5750 rRPM, and 95ft.lb of torque at 5500 RPM, while the XR2 turbo engine was rated at 132hp at 6000rpm and 136ft/lb of torque at 3000rpm. A five speed manual transmission was standard. A four speed automatic was available only on the base (non turbo) version.

The "Ford Capri" was initially offered to Australia in 1989. In late 1990 it was marketed & sold in the US as a "Mercury Capri". Ford hoped a Sporty convertible woudl encourage younger/female customers into Mercury dealerships, where the customer base was primarily older/males.

The Capri was not an immediate sales sucess. Ford targeted first year sales of 30,000 but only 21,000 were actually sold & production decreased each of the subsequent years. Despite generally favorable reports from the automotive press, the Capri suffered from initial build quality problems, vehicle recalls, poor marketing support & a negative article in the April 1991 issues of Consumer Reports. Production ceased when the Capri failed to meets its marketing goals & Ford believed that future demand for two sear convertibles in general, was on the decline.

Manufacturing congtinued until the 1994 model year, with total world wide production reaching 66,279. The final year of production 1994 Ford of Australia assembled less than 4,000 Capris & of that number only 366 were XR2's.

There you have it in a nutshell.......

How many ford capris are left?

That's very difficult to say, but I'll have an educated guess. Right, in an average week you could expect to find about 40 capri's for sale in the UK. So, times by 52 gives us the number sold in an entire year (2,080). The average used car is sold approximately every 5.5 years, so I would estimate there to be a total of 11,440 left in the UK.

The capri sold in millions in it's 19 year production span, so this is a relatively low number.

Why the left brake caliper wont release on your 1992 Caprice?

Either the caliper piston is frozen stuck or the hydraulic brake hose has collapsed internally. Open the bleeder on that caliper and see if the pressure releases, if it does you have a bad brake hose.

How do you lower the roof of a 1990 ford capri?

Inside the left door (In Australia) are two pull out levers the bottom one opens the door for the roof but it has to be unlocked with the key in the slot above them. Once it has clicked you can unlock the handles at the front. There two little red buttons (one each side) that slide forward so the handle can be pulled down, this releases the front of the roof. now that the front is off lift it up slightly (about 6 inches) and unhook the back of the roof and put it up on top. The roof door can now be lifted up and the roof put into it. Don't force it down and make sure the roof is not pinched between the braces. It should all fall into place then the roof hatch can be closed. If this does not work take it to a dealer and they can help...

Cheers Pauly

How do you change brake pads on ford Capri?

Chock the rear wheels and set the E-brake.

Loosen the lug nuts on each front wheel. DON'T UN-SCREW THEM YET!

Jack up the right side and put a jack stand under the A-arm or the subframe.

Unscrew the lug nuts and set the wheel to the side.

Take a screwdriver or other prying tool and pry both old pads open. This is a pretty simple thing to do once you realize that it doesn't make a bit of difference how much damage you do to the old pads. If you do this correctly the pistons will be fully retracted into the caliper.

Reach around behind the caliper and find the two bolts that hold the caliper to the steering knuckle. Take both out. You might need to make a special trip to the parts store to buy a Torx bit...I don't remember if the Capri has a Torx head or not.

The caliper will slide out of the mount and the pins that hold the pad will be obvious. Take the pins out and you'll be holding the pads in your hand.

Clean it all up and install the new pads.

Put the caliper assembly back into the mount and replace the bolts.

Repeat on the other side.

Before you test drive it, pump the brakes a few times to set the new pads.

Take the car for a test drive

Turn around and kick yourself in the butt for not replacing the disks.
