Many of the event in the movie Forrest Gump are historically accurate, as demanded by the star Tom Hanks. The war, civil rights, renewed relations with China and the AIDs epidemic are all true.

Although not specifically stated in the film, I doubt that Forrest had an intellectual understanding of the reasons America was involved in the war in Vietnam. But this seemed to work in his favor. Forrest was excellent at following orders, which is what is needed in the military. If fact, he said it himself that all you have to do is make your bed real neat, shine your boots and always answer 'yes, drill sargent!'. Forrest excelled at this which is why Drill Sargent loved him.

But loosing his 'best good friend Bubba', Forrest didn't like talking about the war. Even with his limited understanding, he knew the war was a bad thing. You don't have to be an Einstein to comprehend the great loss of human life that resulted in America's involvement in Vietnam.

No, he has both his legs. It's amazing what they can do in the making of a movie.

The adult character of Forrest Gump was played by Tom Hanks. He won the 1995 'Best Actor in a Leading Role' Academy Award for his performance. He is a multiple-award winning actor who began his career playing Buffy Wilson on the hit TV comedy "Bosom Buddies." He has paired up with "Forrest Gump" director Robert Zemeckis to appear in "Cast Away" and "The Polar Express".

Forrest was staying at the Watergate Hotel, because Nixon recommended it to him. He sees people snooping around with flashlights in the room across from him, so he innocently calls the front desk to report what he thinks is a power failure.

The implication is that Nixon's Plumbers would not have been caught -- and thus, Nixon would never have resigned the Presidency in disgrace -- if it hadn't been for Forrest.

No, there's nothing at all about the movie that's true. (I mean, some of the things, like Watergate and the Vietnam War, really did happen, but Gump is a fictional character.)

The song is featured in the scene when Robin Wright's character Jenny is singing the song on stage in the strip club.

Forrest has an IQ of 75 when the minimum requirement to get into a regular school requires an IQ of at least 80. In spite of this deficiency, Forrest experienced more than most people do in a lifetime. He had been an All-American football player, he won the Medal of Honor for his bravery in Vietnam, he traveled to China as a member of the national table tennis team, he appeared on TV with John Lennon, became rich and was introduced to three presidents, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon.

From Forrest's comments it seems he did not understand exactly why Jenny hated that house. He just knew it upset her and instinctively he felt she would have been pleased that the such a reminder to her childhood was gone forever.

According to this particular website this is historically accurate due to the newscast being viewed in the Greenbow barber shop. On that date President Carter collapsed due to heat exhaustion.
