Original Furbies do not have an On/Off switch. Emototronic Furbies have an On/Off switch on the bottom in between their feet.
There is a reset button at the bottom of Furby (by the on/off switch) Hold down your Furby's tongue and press that button at the same time. You will know he was reset because it will say "Good Morning!" If that doesn't work, you may have a broken furby :( The only thing to do it return him or try to fix him yourself.
So to answer your question, No. The fact they are a Furby does not automatically make them haunted. They have a poor programming design, and an unfortunate system that is supposed to increase play-time, but winds up scaring the child more often than not - especially when Mom or Dad takes out the batteries, and the Furby still interacts.
As to Furbies saying things they are not meant to say - it isn't exactly marked which ones were tampered with. If you get one that 'wakes up' out of the box and starts saying words it shouldn't know - return it to the store, or send it to the company to be reprogrammed. Popular examples of hacking are: Scary phrases, swearwords, random names, random places, and older websites that aren't childsafe. It is unfortunate that these things happen, but oh well... People get bored, apparently.
Haha, what a funny question...
I guess its not that much of important, but you can get them married if ya want.
Depends on what Furby you have, really. If you have a "First Generation Furby" (the 1998 versions), put two batteries in the battery compartment of the furby, making sure that the small round part of each battery is not facing the prongs in the battery compartment, and then slip two batteries into the compartment door.
For the 2012 Furbys, you should insert two batteries that should rest in the battery compartment, and put two more batteries ontop of the ones in the battery compartment in place.
For the 2005 Furbys, there is an illustration in the battery compartment showing how the batteries should be inserted.
Download the FREE Furby app on your iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and Android device. I believe that you can download the furby app on a tablet if the app store is available.

ask it nicely it he/she will cover its mouth and nose, resulting in suffocation. or just bury it deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep down in the sea. I do what he says but I
end up falling off the edge
I don't know what to do, never seems
To end up being true
Seeps in underneath the door
Sinks in and stains the floor
I don't know what to feel takes so long
For these wounds to heal
Tell me it's not really real
[Chorus:]
Fallen through
Why did I fall for you
Fallen for
All the lies, alibis, that you said
Left me holding on by the last thread
Stop, stare, and watch me burn
Someday it'll be your turn
Can't fool me, I can see all the things
that you don't want me to see
You threw my heart away
That's the price that I paid
I know it's never fair, promised me
You'd always be there
But you never really cared
[Chorus 3x]
i love you, you candle raper.
You have to keep annoying it, until it screams. Then it will revert to a girl

This response was written in 2009. Furbys are no longer popular as of today. In fact it is very hard to find them. The only luck I've had was looking on eBay and www.furbyzone.com
Yep, it's ok, Furbies can understand English and Furbish, either you say English or Furbish, he will reply in Furbish... or slightly English. Don't use any other language, they won't understand.
