The vent is just another name for the chloaca. It is a common openning for excreeting fecal matter, urates and for breeding, laying eggs, etc.

Typically, most gecko species do not eat Vegetables. Most are insectivore species and enjoy live feeders. Feeders should be coated with calcium and gutloaded prior to feeding and no bigger than the distance between the geckos eyes. If your gecko is an omnivorous species, there is a MRP (meal replacement powder) available at most chain stores in a few different well known manufacturers: Repashty, Clarks, T-Rexx.

Most hobbyists reffer to being pregnant as "egg bound" or "fertile" with crested geckos. A crested gecko will lay the eggs 30-45 days after copulation. After the eggs have been deposited, they will incubate 60-120 days depending on temperature.

The crested gecko is a solitary reptile. When introduced into a new environment, surroundings or terrarium they must go through an acclimation period. What this means, is that the crested gecko will take anywhere from 2-6 weeks to adjust to their new home. During this period, the animal may or may not eat as much as normal, be as active as they usually would or may even be darker in coloration as they are experiencing a little bit of stress. Don't be alarmed. Be sure to check your terrarium daily for excrement being left behind. This will allow you to have a peace of mind and to rest assure that the animal is eating and is healthy, but is just taking some time to acclimate. During this 2-6 week period, the animal is also "quarantined" meaning; that they are not exposed to other geckos/ animals. this will give the animal more than enough time to get used to it's own surroundings, while you as the keeper, are ensuring the health of all your previously owned animals. Sometimes when purchasing a new gecko, internal or external parasites can be transfer from one animal to another. The 6 week period will ensure that there can be no exchange in parasites.

Hello, I am a first time leopard gecko owner, so take this with a grain of salt, but I believe at about 4-5 months they had basically all the markings that they now have as adults (if not a little sooner). Mine are both about two years old now.

I bred bluebelly lizards and this is just fine. It is actually a good sign. It means that the eggs were treaded on and didnt break, or that the mother checks on them. Lizard eggs are very much similar to Chinese paper lanterns and easily dent. i would suggest, though, that you make sure they are not being treaded on very often later in the gestation period. A few time a day or so is just fine, but not about maybe 3+ and hour. if so, you may wat to (carefully) move the eggs to a less traveled area. Make sure it is still sunny but not constantly, and my suggestion on moving it is taking a chuck of the ground its on instead of scooting the eggs themselves.

Depending on the species of gecko will determine what type of habitat the animal is going to require. A leopard gecko or fat tailed gecko need a lot of heat and next to zero humidity with rocky surfaces to scale. A crested gecko would require no heating lights and 1-2 mistings dailly to retain moisture.

Some geckos live in a rainforest habitat, others live in a dry/desert climate.

Ive had my leopard gecko for 7 years now. His colour, the thickness of his tail and overall health is excellent. I started feeding him the variety pack of insects at the beginning, such as crickets, mealworms, etc. From there, i moved onto only the occasional pinky mouse, and wax worms for treats, but for the most part his diet constists of superworms. I bought those worms from the pet store but i feed those worms veggies and fruit. I gut load them with that and my gecko loves them. At least his reaction when i feed him demonstrates that. For over a year now and usually after feeding him the superworms i will bite off a piece of apple for my gecko to lick. Occasionally he ll try to take a bite of the apple, but for the most part he just licks it. A good does of vitamin A. Ive read fruit is good, and ive read fruit is bad for geckos, and that you should stick to just insects. Well i think those same people also let their gecko live in discarded buter containers and an aquarium the size of the Barbie convertable car. Overall i think the rule of thumb is everything in moderation. I dont give him a lot of fruit ever, just a taste, dessert if you will, but i never over do it. He also goes crazy for nectarine, and peaches, but could care less for bannanas, and oranges. Hes picky i guess. Anyone else have any thoughts about geckos eating fruit?



right i have a leopard gecko too. she didn't like strawberries but loved a little piece of pineapple. and she's still alive. so i agree it's fine in moderation. i usually give her a little with a superworm on holidays. she has no idea. but she loves the change.

Most gecko species will only feed on live feeders. The reason for this is that the geckos need some sort of movement to stimulate their interest. I do not feel that a dead roach is going to capture the animals attention. There is a product made by fluckers i believe that is a battery operated mechanism that has what seems to be similar to a speaker on the top, that when activated it vibrates up and down. The dead feeders are then put onto this and they bounce up and down. I do not recommend feeding dead feeders as they do not carry the same nutritional value that live feeders would.

There are now such things as jumbo leopard geckos. The correct name for the morph is giant or super giant. If your talking about the ones at petsmart then that's a different story because they call them jumbo leopard geckos when they are actually regular size ones. They just want your money.

This is called the third eye lid. It will sweep the eye from time to time to clean it. It is also called a nictating membrane.

Yes, they can. They are rather good swimmers actually. Leopards in zoos will routinely swim, giving them much needed exercise and helping them to keep cool in hot weather. Jaguars also swim, as do other cat species, such as tigers and fishing cats.

Leopard geckos do not need spraying although they do need a humidity box. This can be a plastic container inside the vivarium with a hole cut in it for an entrance. Put some damp paper towels or vermiculite inside. Keep this on the warm side of the vivarium. Your leopard gecko will go inside whenever it needs to. All you have to do is keep it damp and clean. Without a humidity box your leopard gecko will get skin shedding problems that can lead to toe loss and eye infections.

I don't know.You should see a vet,not ask a computer because why waste time on the computer instead of seeing a vet quickly before your pet doesn't eat more and more until it dies. No one knows except vets.

Yes, lizards do in fact both pee and defecate. The pee may be difficult to see as lizards sometimes like to bury it or hide it.
