All gecko species have 5 fingers or toes, Some may have claws and nails for gripping jagged and rough terrain such as cliff sides and ranges. Other will have setae or lamalee on their feet and this will allow them to hang upside down to almost any surface. In some cases a gecko developing a shedding problem can loose circulation in the toes/fingers due to retained shed skin stuck around the joints. If this is the case, Provide your gecko with a moist paper towel in a tupper wear container and allow their feet to be damp. If the problem continues to happen, a local herp / exotic pets vet must be seeked.
How do you put down a dying gecko?
The best thing is to take them to an exotic pet veterinarian. They can put them down if needed, or may even be able to treat them.
If you are unable to do this, the most humane thing you can do is to provide them with warmth, like a heating stone, and place them in an isolation tank out of the way where they can have some peace. Generally, if a gecko is actually dying, it won't take too long. Make sure they have a little food and water so if they are just sick, they can have a chance to recover.
They eat flies that are contaminated with harmful chemicals.
Dwarf geckos are tropical and live on Madagascar. They also live in the West Indies. There are many different types of dwarf geckos. Some species inhabit parts of Africa such as Zaimbia, Zimbabwe, and Nambia.

How do you know if an African fat tailed gecko is male or female?
Ask your vet/someone at the pet store. If you don't know what you are looking at, it's very hard to tell the gender.
You won't know until is either grown or about to be grown, but with males you see dots under it going into a shape of a v like this below

but females don't.
Above the tail on their stomach there's a v shape that will be outlined will black centered scales.
A male Leopard Gecko has a set of chevron shaped pores on its underside and a bulky tail base.
the male has a distinct row of preanal pores in a v-shape just above the vent and also has 2 bulges just under the vent while the female has neither
Males have a V of darker dots in their pelvic region. Females do not have this. Also, males have 2 large bumps at the base of their tail which is absent in females.
If you are having trouble picking up the gecko, put it in a see through plastic container and look on the bottom...
The male will have a V on hes under belly at the two back legs. The female will have the V but you can't see it as well
What steps to take when a gecko bites you?
Don't panic, it can't kill you. Clean the cut with alcohol to stop it getting infected. If the skin was not pierced, wash your hands with warm water and soap. If it bites you, don't be afraid to handle it again. The more you handle it, the more it gets used to being handled, so it won't bite.
Do leopard geckos HAVE to eat live food?
No. People feed leopard geckos "pinkies" for various reasons. To boost nutrition during a geckos pregnancy. To give a gecko a large feeding so as to not have to feed it for a week (this works well if you want to take a vacation). Some people just think it's entertaining. A Leopard Gecko does not "need" to eat baby mice. Crickets will do.
Kangaroos are most commonly seen as a pest to the farming community, they destroy fences and crops. Farmers shoot them to to stop repetitive patterns.
Why is mealworms call mealworms?
because they look like worms accept they are grey and herbivore. (plant eater)
Where do geckos make their nests?
When it comes time to laying eggs, gecko species will burrow into the soil and lay a clutch of hard shelled eggs about 4-8" deep in moist soil. Some species of gecko are able to stick their eggs to an object with a sticky substance surrounding the eggs and few species of gecko bear live births.
What should the crested geckos weigh?
An adult female crested gecko is usually bigger than a male due to the calcium and fat reserves required to last the breeding season. During the mating season, females will usually cut down on the amount of feedings due to stress. A female is usually not fit to breed until 45+ grams. A male, who is not required to bear eggs, will only need to weigh in around 35+grams. Although males are smaller than females, the size comparison should not be too great of a difference. Much smaller males can sometimes be bullied or picked on.
At what age can you put sand into a leopard gecko's cage?
Sand is the leading cause for impaction. Once the animal ingests sand, it can build up in the digestive tracks and the animal won't be able to pass it. Once impacted, most animals will not eat or drink due to the pain and this can lead to death. Most breeders do not reccomend loose substrates for this reason.
Baby geckos of almost any specie can live comfortably on papertowel substrates. This allows them to seek out a damp/moist spot in the terrarium when shedding, as well as live feedings being able to take place within the terrarium.
well, you can get salmonela ( i dont know if i spelled that right). but all you do to avoid it is to always wash your hands after handling it. also never kiss or put ur leopard gecko on your face...
Geckos do indeed chirp or squeak as many of them have vocal cords. However, other species in the order Squamata (scaled reptiles: lizards and snakes) do not possess them. Geckos will vocalize for many of the same reasons as other living things: mating and scaring off predators. Just today a Western Banded Gecko "yelled" at me as I sought to remove her from my classroom.

How old can geckos live up to?
Geckos can live for up to 20+ years in captivity. These animals usually live 5-10 years in the wild.
Crested geckos are a nocturnal species of gecko and do not require UVB lighting as a duirnal species of gecko would. A crested gecko can still use one but it is not required. Excessive exposure with nocturnal species to UVB can cause other health concerns, be sure that the animal has many places to hide and will not always be exposed to the light all day long.
Are geckos illegal to keep as pets?
Crested geckos were on the extinct species list back in the early 90's. When a hurricane destroyed their natural habitat of New Caledonia, they were forced out of hiding and re introduced to the reptile hobby. Since 1994, the crested gecko population has exploded due to selective breeding. Now, almost 10 years later, the crested gecko is the second most popular gecko pet in the reptile hobby. These animals are no longer considered to be endangered and there are no laws/CITES restrictions pertaining to their keeping in captivity in most areas.
How do you know if your leopard gecko has gone blind?

Our results show that nocturnal geckos are able to dis-
criminate colours in very dim light. Exactly what they use
this ability for and precisely how well they see colour,
remains to be investigated. Geckos are only the second ani-
mal group after a nocturnal hawkmoth (Kelber et al. 2002)
that have been proved to see colour when we are colour-
blind. However, this remarkable ability may be more com-
mon than we thought.
How does gecko protect itself from enemies?
A gecko can amputate its tail. When a predetor, such as a cat, chases after the gecko and catches it by its tail, the tail just comes off. The tail wiggles around for a while and the cat while become distracted and confused, this stops the cat from chasing the gecko. This way, the gecko can live his happy little life as a lizard and eat food, and chirp and be happy.
What animals can live with leopard geckos?
One adult sized leopard gecko would require a minimal of 10 Gallons of space. Tile/paper towel substrates, heat reaching 85-95 with a basking spot of up to 103-105F, a bowl of standing water, 1 humid hide, 1 dry hide, some rock decorations and live feedings 2-4times a week.
How can you tell if your leopard gecko is ill?
the best way to tell if your leopard gecko is healthy by the look of their tail. if it is fat then that means your Leo is doing good, but if it is skinny then he is not healthy and not happy. however, baby leos are supposed to have skinny tails when they are born so don't get confused if it looks unhealthy.
You can NOT house two males together because of them being territorial! They will fight and most likely kill each other. As for females, that depends, most are not as long as they are in a big enough cage, but they can be. You can house two females in at LEAST a 20 gallon long. Do NOT house a female and male together, the male will become territorial when shedding, and they will mate to much (killing the female).
Why do geckos drop there tail?
It is used as a defence mechanism, so if a predictor attacks a gecko it would usually drop its tail to distract the attacker. Not all geckos do this but lots do, when geckos grow back there tail it usually looks different then before and is usually more wide. So if holding a leopard gecko for example make sure that you make sure you don't hurt the tail as it may lose its tail.
