The ordinary bird food is, but it is not suggested as an average diet.

What do gerbils eat?

Well They just eat normal Gerbil food from the pet store. I'm not sure this is for all gerbils but mine eat lettuce and cheerios.my gerbils are obsessed with wild bird seed and I've checked its OK for them to eat so that's a great treat. they like most veg (but don't give them rhubarb, tomato or potato because that's bad for them) and a few bits of plain cereal! gerbils love to eat mixed food like penuts&sunflower seeds. gerbils love to eat fruit&vegetables do not let gerbils eat citrus fruit like lemons, orange, pineapple and limes.they love to eat treats like yoghurt drops.

Gerbils are omnivores and can eat small insects such as crickets and larva.

Your gerbil's not moving is that bad?

Well, that's a tough question. Sometimes, when gerbils are frightened like they hear a noise that scares them, they'll remain frozen in their position for a few minutes. That happened just a couple of times to my gerbils, but hopefully it doesn't happen often. If it's a sort of thing like he lays down and starts to go to sleep every few seconds, then it may be that he is sick. When 2 of my gerbils were getting old, they would run around like gerbils do, then he would collapse and not move, then a few seconds later he would do the same. It went on for awhile, and it got worse and worse. Then around Christmas, he wouldn't move at all. It was awful, and at the time I didn't know what to do to help him. I read later that lethargy (laying down and not moving, he's really tired) meant that he might've had a common rodent disease called Tyzzer's Disease. The gerbil will fall down and get sleepy a lot, and it quickly results in death. It's a serious infectious disease that's very common among gerbils, and it spreads quickly. I found out that he had given it to my other gerbil, too. He did the same thing. It was very sad, and you can't do much about it. There's a chance that your vet could help you, though. On the other hand, your gerbil might just be sleeping, or dreaming or really frightened. Do some more research and ask your vet. This may not even be a disease, just something else. I hope your gerbil is ok!

Are Siamese gerbils nasty?

Well in my opinion (because I have never had one) siamese gerbils aren't any different from any other gerbil.......so they should be mean unless if they have been neglected. Does that answer your question?

What is a gerbils personality usually?

A gerbil's personality is usually springy and intellegent. But sometimes if they are living on their own or their cage is too small they can become bored. Obviously older gerbils can become weaker and less up for running around all day, but other than that they make great pets!

Can you blow on a gerbil if it bits you?

Are gerbil's nocturnal?

Of course not!

They sleep during the night just like you, and should not keep you up, unless you go to bed early. They know when you sleep, and they sleep whenever they see you sleeping. They also take naps when you are gone. Gerbils love to nap, and they do not usually take deep sleeps though. They sleep when you do, but wake a little earlier.

My point:

Gerbils sleep when you do. They are not nocturnal, but they do nap a bit.

Some breeds of gerbils are actually nocturnal.

And some are not.

My gerbils come out in the morning but then go to sleep again until the evening.

What does it mean if your gerbil is chewing on everything?

Your gerbil is simply wearing down his/her teeth. There is nothing wrong. their teeth grey constanly so they will often need to chew on something. be sure to give them plenty of cardboard and paper. Be carful giving them wood as many type of tree are poisionus to them. if you live near an orcird you may be able to get apple wood (you buy it dont go around cutting down their trees) which is perfectly safe.

What if your gerbil keeps peeing on your hand when you want to try pick it up why does it do that?

Gerbils who are not accustomed to being handled will urinate and defecate frequently when you attempt to hold them. Fear, unfamiliar surroundings, and the effect of being held are typical causes. Try holding your gerbil for a few seconds several times a day and gradually build up to holding them for longer periods of time. The more often you handle them the less likely they will be to urinate or defecate. Please keep in mind that even when tame gerbils will still have the occasional accident.

How much does a fish net cost?

Depends on who you go to, if you go to Asia is some places it is as cheap as lipbalm but is not as durable, if you go to local fish markets, it is well over £20 and is a complete and utter rip off so just make your own mate.

Do gerbils need daily human contact?

Yes, they will become lonely and depressed if they don't have another gerbil. You usually buy gerbils in pairs to stop this problem. However it is very dangerous to introduce two gerbils who have never met before. They can often end up killing each other. As when you buy them in pairs they are siblings. And have been together since a young age.

What is the best diet to feed a pet gerbil on?

It is best to feed a pet gerbil a variety of healthy food. Commercial store bought food is really good for the base food for your gerbil. But Gerbils like treats too, so try some pasta, nuts, cereal and of course some crickets for a fun treat.
