What happens in golf when your ball hits a water hose on the fairway?

If you hit the ball into the water there is a one shot penalty. You can either drop the ball 2 club lengths from the edge of the hazard or you can go back as far you like in line with the point where the ball entered the hazard. Or you can even go back to the tee, you will be playing 3 off the tee.

That is not strictly correct. The question asks only about "water". There are two "types" of water in the Rules of Golf. i.e. Casual Water(CW) , which is a temporary collection of water, and water in a water hazard. There are two types of water hazard i.e Regular water hazard(WH) and a lateral water hazard, (LWH). It is still a WH or LWH even if there is no water in it.

If your ball is at rest in Casual Water, you are required to proceed, without penalty, under Rule 25-1. If your ball is at rest in eithe a WH or LWH, you must proceed under Rule26-1.Note. If your ball lies in a LWH you have an additional relief optionviz.Rule26-1c.

Which ever relief option you wish to prcoceed under in Rule26-1 it will cost you a penalty stroke. However, a player is not obliged to take relief. He ALWAYS has the option to play the ball as it lies, Rule 13-1.

What does 8 7 score mean in golf game?

If I understand the question, I think you're meaning to ask what does the score 8&7 mean. 8&7 would be the score of a "Match-Play" event. In a Match Play event, two players compete against each other directly, versus each player playing for himself against the rest of the field.

Because two players are competing directly against each other, there is no total score kept in terms of strokes (i.e. 2 under, 3 over, etc.). Instead, the players compete against each other on a hole by hole basis. So if on the first hole, one player takes 3 strokes to get in the hole and his opponent takes 4 strokes, the first player wins that hole, and the match play score would be recorded as 1 up after 1 hole. If the first player wins the second hole, the score would be 2 up after 2 holes.

The players go on like that for an entire 18 holes. A match finished when one player is ahead by more holes than are left to play. For instance, if a player has won 8 holes, and there are only 7 holes left to play, that player wins the match, because there is no way for his opponent to catch up, even if he wins every hole. And that match would be recorded as the victorious player winning by 8&7 (8 up with 7 to play).

Another side note, is that if both players have the same score on a hole, that hole is said to be halved, meaning neither player wins the hole.

How do you authenticate your golf clubs irons?

You know Ping Irons are authentic by looking at the hosel. It should have a serial number. Then contact Ping and ask for the specs from the serial number.

What are the different parts of a golf club?

A putter has three main parts, the head, which is made out of metal, and has a flat face with usually 4 degrees of loft, the face can have an insert which may be polymer or a soft metal to enhance feel. There is also a shaft which is nearly always steel, for a normal putter can be 33-35 inches although there are belly and chin putter which are much longer. There is also a grip, which usually has a flat front for your thumbs, it is made of a rubber or similar compound, which has a soft and often tacky feel.

Can you drive a golf cart on the highway?

No. Since golf carts do not meet regulations (or need to) to be driven on public roads, they are designed specifically for golf courses. Having said that, some golf clubs have their own rules governing the need to be a certain age or hold a current drivers license. It would pay to check with the club before using a cart on their course.

What is the difference in the pros golf clubs and the ones in the store?

There are many differences. The most common ones are that the drivers are C.O.R tested and are usually a hot melt, which means there is hot glue poured into the head of the club to dampen the sound on impact. The drivers are bent to specific degrees to give a better launch angle and spin rate. Pros also have all their clubs matched for swing weight, a lot of amateurs would not need this. Pros also sometimes get their shafts tipped, which means cutting some off the bottom, not the top so the shaft plays stiffer than standard.

The funny thing is, there used to be a lot more differences including, lie and loft adjustments, custom shafts and grips, but any player can get clubs custom fitted in a good golf shop.

How can you tell if golf irons are authentic?

Where to Buy Golf Clubs Online

When buying golf equipment online many people think of eBay (particularly for used clubs) and the 'major' online golf stores. However, there are many more options available for buying golf clubs online.

AUCTION SITES

Yes, there's eBay, and it really can't be beaten for online auctions. eBay is unmatched for choice and volume. However, it's possible to get stung on eBay if you're not careful (see the tips section below). Here are some other auction sites you might want to try:

o Online Auction (US) - I found about 200 golf items available for auction here. Mainly golf balls, gloves and other bits and pieces.....not much in the way of clubs. May be worth a look

o Golfbidder (UK/Europe) - mainly sell secondhand golf clubs, sourced from golf club professionals from around the UK (a small % are sourced directly from the public). While most clubs are sold as 'Instant Buys', some are auctioned. There are usually 30-odd items being auctioned at any one time and you may be able to pick-up a good deal

o Grays Online (Australia) - sellers on this site are mainly manufacturers, distributors or retailers trying to move excess or slow moving stock......not consumer to consumer auctions. Not necessarily a bad thing as this reduces some of the risk, but it also reduces the range. While there were only about 40 golf items for auction when I last looked, there were some good deals. Worth a look

I would generally avoid buying new golf equipment through online auctions. While you can take some precautions, it's difficult to know whether you're getting the genuine item or just a knock-off. Large, recognized eBay sellers are probably an exception.

MAJOR ONLINE STORES

There are quite a few well established online golf stores that stock a huge range of equipment and have a lot invested in their brand. Some are better than others, but you shouldn't get any surprises and you should expect quality service, prompt delivery, a refund policy and plenty of information for buyers (eg buying guides). Some of the better ones include:

o Golfsmith.com

o GolfALLDiscount.com

o The Golf Warehouse.com

o CallawayGolf.com

o Rockbottom Golf.com

o Golf Outlets USA.com

o Austad's Golf.com

o Golf Galaxy.com

o Snainton Golf.com

o Online Golf.com

ONLINE GOLF FORUMS

Some great online golf communities have formed over the past few years and you can now choose from literally dozens of online golf forums to be part of. Some of the larger ones have an area for buying, selling and trading golf equipment.

Because golf forums are small(ish) communities of people with a shared interest, it's a pretty supportive and safe environment in which to buy and sell equipment. If you're not sure whether a seller of golf club is genuine, you can simply ask other forum members.

There's a lot of combined knowledge in these forums, so the bad apples get found out quickly.

I reckon these are the best and they have a very active buy/sell/trade area:

o Golf WRX - approx. 79,000 members (primarily US)

o Golf Magic - approx. 77,000 members (primarily UK/Europe)

o iseekgolf - approx. 75,000 members (primarily Australia)

USED GOLF EQUIPMENT STORES

Stores that sell used equipment are a very good alternative to eBay, classifieds and other online auction sites. The larger used online stores will often have: (1) a used club inspection and certification process, (2) no questions asked returns policy, (3) 12 month warrantee; and (4) shipping damage guarantee.

While many of the big online golf stores sell used golf equipment as well as new, there are a few online stores that sell only used:

USED ONLY

o Callaway Pre-Owned - sell other brands too, eg Nike, Titleist, Ping, TaylorMade. Offer 12 month warranty, money back guarantee and 90-day buy-back

o TaylorMade Pre-Owned -14 day money back guarantee and 12 month warrantee

o Golfbidder (UK) -7 day 'no quibble' returns policy, 12 month warrantee and some good buyer's guides to help you choose the right clubs

USED & NEW

o Golfsmith - 30 day returns policy. No warrantee - they defer to the manufacturer's warrantee (which has probably expired!)

o Edwin Watts Golf - 30 day returns policy. No warrantee - they defer to the manufacturer's warrantee

o Direct Golf (UK) - used clubs sourced from trade-ins at Direct Golf stores. 14 day money back guarantee. No warrantee

AMAZON

The Amazon marketplace is big........very big. And there's a good range of new and used golf gear here.

Amazon's marketplace is a bit like eBay in that sellers (big and small) register with Amazon to sell their new or used golf equipment. The difference is that the items aren't auctioned, they're sold at the advertised price. It's also a bit less risky with Amazon's purchase guarantee - they'll refund your money if you don't receive the item you paid for, or if it's not what you expected.

Amazon also offers a free subscription to Golf Digest or Golf World if you spend more the US$25 (US only).

Check out Amazon Golf.

EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER SITES

There's really only one top club manufacturer selling online, and that's Callaway. The others, such as Titleist, Ping, Nike, etc obviously have websites to market their gear, but generally sell clubs through retail stores.

A few manufacturers (listed below), while not selling equipment online, provide information and tools that would be helpful to online buyers:

o Titleist - Titleist provides really comprehensive description of their products (incl. Vokey wedges and Scotty Cameron putters), as well as a catalogue of their previous models. There's also some information on spotting fake Titleist gear

o Ping - the Ping site has an online club fitting tool that would be useful if planning to buy Ping equipment online elsewhere. Ping also has some information about spotting fake gear

o Odyssey - here you can find a pretty good online tool to find the right putter. You can buy Odyssey putters from the Callaway website

o Callaway - can buy equipment direct from Callaway at their online shop

ONLINE CLASSIFIEDS

Online classified sites are another option, mostly for used golf clubs. The local classified paper has moved online, so it's very likely that you'll find a classifieds website for your local area. While you may not find the biggest range of golf clubs, if the seller is close by you can drive over to check the clubs out.

Craigslist hosts classified ads that service the entire globe, so you should also have a look here. It's the 8th most popular website in the US, with around 50 million unique visitors per month!

How many tournaments does a professional golfer play a year?

Actually there are many scenarios depending on the tournament, the tour (PGA, LPGA, Champions Tour, Nationwide Tour, etc) and the golfer themselves. Most all pro tournaments are four days long, 1 round (18 holes) a day, except for the Champions Tour (formerly the Senior Tour) which is 3 days long, 1 round a day. If there are stoppages for weather the golfers may play more than 18 holes in a day. Some times as many as 2 full rounds in a day. If there is a ProAm linked to the tournament, that is usually on Wednesday. Most players will come in on Tuesday and play a practice round to get more familiar with the course. As you can see depending on the tournament, the tour and the golfer, they could play up to 6 rounds each week. During an off week your guess is as good as mine but I would imagine a guy like Tiger plays and practices everyday, while a guy like John Daly has a few beers and a smoke and might get out every once in a while.

The serial number on the club car golf cart isA9232294822 what year is it?

You have a 1990 Since 1981 Club Car Golf Carts have positioned their serial numbers just under the glove box on the passengers side of the vehicle. The first two numbers (not letters) indicate the last two digits of the year of manufacture. On Club Car Golf Carts prior to 1981, you can find the serial number by raising the seat and locating the aluminum, I-beam frame section closest to the batteries on the driver's side of the car. If the serial number plate has been removed, you can confirm it is a 1975-1980 model if it has two brake pedals and one accelerator.

What is an average golf score for women?

The average golf score still hovers around 100.It has not changed since the early 1900's despite improvements in course design, equipment and balls. It is estimated that about 80% of the people who play golf never break 100 (THIS IS NOT TRUE AND HAS BEEN DISCUSSED IN DETAIL ON GOLF NETWORK- THIS MAY BE TRUE IF YOU INCLUDE EVERYONE WHO PLAYED ONE TIME, BUT IF YOU TOOK A SAMPLING OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE PLAYED IN ONE YEAR IT WOULD BE 50% OR LESS) .Of course the pros usually shoot below par but they are a small percentage of the total people who play.So if you shoot in the 90's or better you are in an elite minority.
