Apart from performing a religious duty, a pilgrim can learn a lot by going to hajj and seeing people. The pilgrims leave the field of Arafat just at sunset of 9th ZilHajja and enter the Field of Musdalfa. They offer their Maghrib (Evening) and Isha (Night) prayers together. They spend most of the night praying to Almight Allah Karim. They may sleep there for sometime. They should pick up at least 49 small pebbles from the field. They offer Fajar prayer and leave muzdalfa at sunrise.

Hazrat Abraham AS and his son Hazrat Ismail As rebuilt the Holy Ka'abah in Mecca. Almighty Allah (God) ordained Hazrat Abraham AS to announce to the people of the world to come to Ka'abah every year to perform Hajj. Since then people, especially the Arabs, have been performing Hajj.As the last Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) is the offspring of Hazrat Ismail AS, Almighty Allah has ordained the Muslims to continue performing Hajj every year. In fact, the rituals of Hajj are in the memory of Hazrat Abraham AS, Hazrat Ismail AS and his Ismail's mother Hazrat Hajarah AS.

There is no minimum period limit for a Muslim to go for pilgrimage (hajj) after consuming alcohol. However, it is important for him/her to repent sincerely, intend to stop consuming alcohol, and to ask God for forgiveness.

There are several steps to the Hajj. 1. Pilgrims enter the state of consecration for hajj when they reach the borders of the general area for hajj. 2. When they arrive in Makkah, they generally perform tawaf, walking around the Kaaba seven times counter-clockwise, and then they offer two rakats (units) of salat (formal Islamic prayer.) They also perform saie, walking back and forth between Mounts Safa and Marwa. The Kaaba, Safa, and Marwa are inside the Holy Mosque in Makkah. 3. On the day of Arafat, they go to the Valley of Arafat, and stay there until sunset. It is in Arafat that the pilgrim's sins are forgiven. This is the most important ritual of the hajj. 4. After sunset, they move to another valley, Muzdalifah, and spend the night there. 5. The next day, the Feast of the Sacrifice, or Eid-al-Adha, they sacrifice a sheep and give the meat to the poor. Nowadays, this is done by professional butchers in processing plants. Pilgrims pay a fee to have this done, and seldom see or participate in the actual slaughter. The processing plants clean and then freeze or can the meat, which is distributed to the poor in a number of countries. 6. Once the sacrifice has taken place, pilgrims trim their hair and nails, and leave the condition of consecration. 7. Before leaving Makkah, they offer a farewell tawaf.

It is the place where our beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (May peace and blessings of Allah karim be upon him) delivered his famous sermon. After Hajj the pilgrims, and the Muslims all over the world, slaughter animals as sacrifice to commemorate the sacrifice Hazrat Ibraheem (AS) offered of his son Ismaieel (AS). The event should have been equally sacred for the Jews and the Christians as both of them have faith in the Prophet-hood of Hazrat Abraham (AS).
