It's not what people think happened on halloween. It's what actually happened. Halloween occurs simultaneously (at the same time as) the winter solstice, which is the infamous holiday for witches. Anything associated with witches/witchcraft is associated with demons for that is what witchcraft really is, a demonic ceremony. Long ago, presumably by the druids at stonehenge, animal and human sacrifices were performed at every winter solstice, which allegedly is when certain planets align or line up. This is why lil kids dress up as ghouls and freaks of all kinds at halloween, because during the winter solstice, demons were allegedly on the prowl due to stupid people messing with ceremonial dances, barbaric rituals, and now ouija boards and bloody mary. People have been cut, stabbed, mauled, had bones broken, traumatized, and even killed during halloween/winter solstice. The whole trick or treat thing started with a treat (to the demons, which was a sacrifice) or a trick (a demonic act of violence or theat of violence). People still don't take this seriously as kids do it now with no knowledge of what they are saying/doing, except running around collecting candy.

I think she finds out about it in Halloween 2 (1981). The audience finds out about it in Halloween 2, for sure, because it says so on the Wikipedia page. But it doesn't say whether or not this information is relayed to Laurie, and personally, I haven't seen Halloween 2 in so long (like, 12 years, or something) that I really can't remember any of it. She definitely knows about it in the next Halloween sequel that she was in, Halloween: H20 (1998), because I remember her talking about it, and I also remember that at the end, her fraternal feelings almost keep her from chopping Michael's head off. I haven't seen H20 in awhile, either (about 6 years), but I'm pretty sure she already knows about it at the very beginning of that one. I'm pretty sure she finds out in Halloween 2.
