Strange things always seemed to happen around Harry, such as his hair growing back after a bad haircut or being found on the roof of the school when being chased by bullies, because he was a wizard showing displays of magic.

Lord Voldemort gave Harry's mother, Lily, the choice to stand aside and live. She refused to do so and died protecting her child. This created a strong bond of magic that is not understood by many. Lily's love for her son created a powerful protection spell over him.

Rubeus Hagrid was sent to retrieve Harry Potter from Godric's Hollow the night his parents were killed which is when they first met even if Harry was to young to remember. They met again when Hagrid come to tell Harry he was a wizard and take him to Diagon Alley on his eleventh birthday.

Lily Potter died to protect Harry. In doing so, she cast a powerful protection spell. Professor Quirrell, who was sharing his body with Voldemort, tried to take the stone from Harry and intended to cause him harm. So when he touched Harry, the protection spell caused Quirrell to suffer severe burns.

Voldemort abandoned Quirrell and left him to die.

J.K. Rowling would take her young daughter for a walk until she fell asleep and would then go to a cafe so she could write. Rowling likes writing in cafes, and it can lead to inspiration. One of the cafes she wrote in had a view of Edinburgh Castle, which inspired Hogwarts Castle.

In his childhood Albus Dumbledore ate a vomit flavoured bean. Since then he been put off eating Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, but tried one at Harry's bedside and was unfortunate enough to receive earwax.

The first four chapters of the series are basically emerging you into the wizarding world as a muggle. They are explaining to you Harry's circumstances and giving you a feel for how Harry was raised by the Dursleys. They are giving some background and setting the stage for what is to come throughout the rest of the series.
