What are the dimensions of a 75 inch flat screen television?

80 inches is the diagonal measurement. The aspect ratio will be 16 horizontal by 9 vertical.

Using Pythagorean's theorem we can determine:

  • diagonal^2 = horizontal^2 + vertical^2
  • diagonal^2 = 16^2 + 9^2
  • diagonal^2 = 256 + 81 = 337
  • diagonal = 18.36

Using these ratios:

  • 80 inches diagonal / 18.36 = horizontal / 16 = vertical / 9
  • 80 inches diagonal = horizontal * 18.36 / 16 = vertical * 18.36 / 9
  • 80 inches diagonal : 69.72 inches horizontal : 39.22 inches vertical

So the dimensions of an 80 inch flat screen television will be a bit larger than 70 inches by 40 inches.

What is the proper way to clean flat screen tv's monitors?

NEVER use any fluids to clean an LCD screen. Use a dry and soft cloth (not paper, it contains wood pieces which could scratch your screen). If this doesn't help, use lightly wetted anti-static monitor wipes ESPECIALLY designed to clean such screens. They are widely available at electronics or office supply stores. Also, on the packaging look for the designation: Safe for Laptops and LCD screens. But always be very careful! You can purchase a cleaning solution from any electronics store, perhaps the one you bought the TV from and this will do the job. Follow instructions on the container. Whatever you do, do not use alcohol based products, it will do some serious damage to your screen over time. Spend 5 bucks and go to the store and buy the cleaners and a really soft rag. Do not use the conventional products like Windex etc. Also make sure your screen is off when you do it for a little while. If you don't, you are heating up the chemicals and making them dry faster. Your screen might not feel warm but it's the reaction of light with the chemicals. Lay the screen flat, too. To keep your screen cleaner longer, try not to touch the screen. To dust it (tissue may leave dust), I use an old draftsman's brush, but a Swiffer duster would likely work as well. The ideal solution is plain distilled water. If more heavy cleaning is needed a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and distilled water can also effective. Manufacturers no longer recommend using any cleaners with alcohol, ammonia or any strong solvents on LCD screens.

Will an HD receiver work on a non-HD television?

Almost all HD sources, whether they are receivers or disc players, will have a standard definition output. They will all have an HDMI connector to provide the HD output as well. Receivers with an SD output will deliver a signal that is standard definition regardless of the original source resolution. Be aware that the quality will ALWAYS be standard definition when viewed on a standard definition television. It is still worthwhile to purchase an HD receiver now because the HD quality will be available as soon as an HD television is added to the system. HD televisions cost little more than SD televisions, so the next TV purchase will very likely be an HD model. It is important to check that a receiver has the SD output before buying one. Although most will have SD outputs, don't get caught out by buying one of the few models that is HD only.

What televisions have picture in picture?

There are too many televisions to offer a definitive list here but a few a listed below. Please feel free to add other models with picture in picture to the list.

Here are some general comments about picture in picture facilities from a TV engineer:

Usually a TV with picture in picture will require an external input signal such as from a TV antenna or some other source. I've serviced many TV calls with complaints that the PIP doesn't work. In many cases, it's because they try to connect it to the same cable box expecting it to work. Since the cable box only displays one channel at a time, it won't work.

If you're looking for a TV with PIP, please make sure you've fuly researched the set's requirements, have asked a lot of questions and truly understand how the PIP works for that particular set.

How much more information can a Blu-ray disc hold than a CD?

Yes.

Thus it allows for more data to be stored, obviously.

This brings many benefits in for example console gaming, the PS3 able to read blu ray disks, has a big advantage over the XBOX 360 when it comes to high resolution games.

The textures that the game uses, don't have to be compressed and packed on a blu ray disk, thus, the console doesn't have to do any computing work to decompress the textures, the XBOX360 on the other hand has to compress all the textures on certain games, because the HD-DVD doesn't have the capacity to carry all uncompressed textures. And therefore, with its compressed textures, it has to sacrifice from its already low computing power to decompress the textures.

The reason why most of the games until now have been equal or better for the XBOX360 in terms of graphics, is because the PS3 uses a very sophisticated and complicated CPU structure, which would require a lot more work to utilize all the power.

Since the XBOX360 uses a "regular desktop CPU" (if I remember correctly a 3-core CPU), programmers have preferred to develop the games utilizing regular programming style, making it not very compatible for the PS3, this is where the developers would cut the graphics on the PS3, because there is no time to reprogram almost everything just that it runs smooth on the PS3.

Now however, the XBOX360 has reached its limit in power, and developers have started to do it the other way, program the games for the rather special PS3 CPU, utilizing all the power it has to offer, making games look very good.
