yes, based on experience we have here in Batangas, the head lice infested grade 4 girl used to have NITS at virtually 80% of her hair from ROOT TO TIP (no exaggeration) not to mention how much lice found in the hair (it's really freaky, i bet she would have won the MOST NUMBER of head lice if there was a contest).
she used oilganics shampoo for a month and a half religiously, and after which, she was screened from head lice. she used practically all pesticide-based products like kwell and licealiz (they use permethrin and pyrethrin -- same content as those in insect killers), to no avail.
oilganics really worked her. the girl is my good friend's daughter, and i witnessed how it really treated the kid.
The head louse is a tiny, wingless parasitic insect that lives among human hairs and feeds on tiny amounts of blood drawn from the scalp. Lice (the plural of louse) are a very common problem, especially for kids. They're contagious, annoying, and sometimes tough to get rid of.

But while they're frustrating to deal with, lice aren't dangerous. They don't spread disease, although their bites can make a child's scalp itchy and irritated, and scratching can lead to infection.

Why do lice look white on hair then when taken out look brown?
Head lice are parasites that live in the hair and scalp of humans. The egg sacs or nits are white or yellowish. They are firmly attached to the hair shaft. Nits hatch into nymphs which are immature adult head lice. The adult louse is about the size of a sesame seed. It has six legs since it is an insect and it is tan to greyish- white, but after it eats it looks brown. The nymph looks like a small louse in terms of color.

they eat blood. I would not assume that all the eggs were dead. They need to be removed from the hair with a nit comb to prevent re-infestation or transmission.
Will a hair straightener fry live head lice and or the nits?
It will; the problem is that most of the nits are so close to the scalp as are the lice, that one would end up burning the scalp to get to the lice. Try to find a reputable lice removal service in your area. Most use a safe and effective manual removal method and many offer guarantees as well.
Will diatomaceous Earth kill lice?
Probably. Only problem is how to put it on your head without breathing it in. Guess you could wear a face mask and rub it in but then you are walking around with white dust in your hair. Also not sure how it would effect nits. The metal lice comb- nit terminator seems to work for my kids.
