not true. they may need the warmth of the human head, but depending on at what point of "incubation" they can still hatch. i am speaking from experience - i have watched it happen on a anti-bacterial wipe that i placed them on while picking them out of my daughter's hair.

To you and your friend, that may sound like the only solution at this point, but there are many natural ways of getting rid of lice. One way is Castor oil, that is a successful and easy method. All you have to do is wash out the Castor oil with shampoo. You can also use (over the counter) Vaseline. Another way to get rid of lice is using mayonnaise. If none of these things help, and there is no other solution, then i suppose shaving her head is not the worst idea. She will be out of pain, and her hair will eventually grow back. On the other hand, I suggest to first try these methods, and more which can be found online.
yeah my friend has them 2 so what u need 2 make sure she does is take the combs through her hair and if u really want a cleaner head that really has more of a garentee u can go through by hand and with every nit that of the hair put it in some achahol. Then help her go through her house and wash all pillow cases and put the pillow in the dryer 4 at least 15 miniutes do that with anything that can't be put in the washer. and u can also try going 2 the dr. but no i don't think she should shave her head. and I've heard that if YOU don't want to get it, u can sprits some sea breeze in ur hair ... no garentees on any of this but it is definitly worth trying before u shave her head

Children can come home from school with lice in their hair and it's contagious. With the proper medication (generally a medicated shampoo) you can get rid of the lice quite quickly. AnswerI am a Nurse Practitioner. In answer to your question, yes, in theory, vaseline could kill lice. It would smother them. But you would have to put it over your entire head and all the hair. It would be messy, sticky and hard to get the nits out. It is better to use mayonnaise. I have recommended this to patients before for stubborn lice infestations. It washes out better than vaseline and makes it so the nits slip out. Put the mayonnaise on at night. Cover the entire head. Cover with saran wrap or shower cap. Sleep with it on head. Wash hair in the morning. Be sure to comb out all nits with a good nit comb. Nit combs can be bought at your local drug store.

Yes, It will smother them. My mother did this to my sister when she was a child. She had a medical condition and could not use the regular treatments. But she also used heat in conjunction with it. After she has washed out all the Vasleline she used a curling iron to kill the knits. Yes it takes time but its worth it.
