Heart

The heart is a major organ of the body that is found in the circulatory system. It pumps blood throughout the blood vessels. Questions related to the heart should be put here.

Which valves produce the second heart sound when they snap shut?

Isovolumetric relaxation: In this phase the ventricles relax, the intraventricular pressure decreases. When this occurs, a pressure gradient reversal causes the aortic and pulmonary valves to abruptly close (aortic before pulmonary), causing the second heart sound. How a choice chamber work?

Scientificly: a jar or a container used for investigating an insect or an animal.

Generally : A washroom or rest room

What percent of all oxygen token in is used to run the heart?

The amount varies widely, depending upon factors such as the size of the individual and intensity of physical activity (for two).

Does the heart move?

When your heart contracts their is a twisting and lifting motion. It is almost like ringing out a dish rag. The apex, or the tip, of the heart raises up as the heart twists as it pushes out the blood from the ventricles.

There is also motion that occurs due to other reasons besides the contraction of the heart. The base of the heart is attached to numerous vessels and other tissue, so it is more or less anchored. However, the apex of the heart is not anchored to anything and can shift around based our our body position and breathing. The motion of the heart due to position and diaphragm motion can be around 3 cm.

Where are the purkinje fibers in the heart?

Purkinje fibers are located in the endocardium.

Endocardium: This is the inner layer of the heart that consists of epithelium and underlying connective tissue. The endocardium also contains bloods vessels and Purkinje fibers. The endocardium lines all of the heart chambers and covers structures, such as heart valves, that project into them. This inner lining is also continuous with the (endothelium) of the blood vessels attached to the heart and throughout the cardiovascular system.

Which veins are directly connected to the atriumright ventricles?

There are two vessels Superior vena cava and Inferior vena cava. This is for your pulmonary circuit.

*The coronary sinus drains deoxygenated blood from the myocardium, from there it empties into the right atrium. The anterior cardiac veins drain the right and left ventricles and open directly into the right atrium. There are four blood vessels that empty into the right atrium:

1-inferior vena cava

2-superior vena cava

3-coronary sinus

4-anterior cardiac veins

Is it dangerous if your heart skips a beat?

50 percent of people have had or will have a skipped heart beat. These can result from stress, fatigue, or can occur when the body is cooling down after exercise. Skipped beats can also occur during menopause for women because of hormone irregularities, or possibly men experiencing hormone changes, I've heard of steroid users having this problem. I've heard that skipped heart beats are usually perfectly harmless, unless there is an underlying heart probem. You should always talk to a dotor to be sure, especially if it bothers you

Does ginger affect your heart rate?

Eating spicy foods can cause heartburn in some people, but not all. It all depends on the person and if they have a chronic condition. If a person gets heartburn frequently this could be a sign of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, or GERD. Otherwise, heartburn causes differ from person to person. It is common though that spicy foods would be the culprit.

Why are pericardium important?

pericardium is a bag surronding the heart which acts as a shock absorber.

How big is an average heart?

Typical heart of an adult [1]:

4.7 in (12cm) in length

3.1 in (8cm) to 3.5 in (9cm) in breadth

2.4 in (6cm) in thickness

How does the structure of the heart relate to its function?

firstly the left side of the heart is more muscular then the right which enables the left side to provide enough pressure to pump oxygenated 'red' blood around the heart. The aorta is made of elastic tissue so it can successfully expand and 'cope' under the high blood pressure. This ensures the blood can successfully travel around the body. The superior and inferior vena cava, like other veins, contain valves which prevent the backflow of blood as the deoxygenated blood has a low pressure. This assists in the transport of the deoxygenated blood to the heart. The right ventricle is large to generate enough pressure to transport the deoxygenated blood to the lungs via the pulmonary artery wheras the left ventricle has thick, muscular walls to 'push' the blood successfully around the body. The left atrium is has a small chamber to generate a higher pressure of blood and the septum is made up of muscular tissue to provide a wall seperating the ventricles....

So all in all, the structure of the heart enables it to effectively pump blood around the body.

What surface groove seperates the right and left ventricles?

Anterior and posterior interventricular/longitudinal sulci (singular sulcus).

What happens in a heart when an action potential is generated in the SA node?

It simulates the node, which then sends impulses to the AV node, which disperses these impulses through the cardiac muscle to cause a cardiac cycle (rhythmic beating and relaxing of atria and ventricles)

The heart is what that squeezes blood into the arteries?

Yes, the heart is what squeezes or pushes blood through the arteries.

Does congestive heart failure improve with a pacemaker?

Yes, you should externally defibrillate a patient with a pacemaker who has gone into cardiac arrest. Chest compressions, rescue breathing and standard cardiac arrest procedures should be followed, while paying attention to the following points.

EMS personnel should be aware that the pacemaker has its own implanted defibrillator and will fire charges at regular intervals. This should not harm the person doing chest compressions. A slight tingling feeling may be felt on the patient as the shock from the pacemaker is delivered. To avoid this, wear thick nitrile or latex gloves while doing chest compressions.

The shock from the external defibrillator may cause damage to the pacemaker, and even interfere with it. To lessen the risk of this, the defibrillator should be placed on the lowest possible charge that is clinically accepted. If you notice that the implanted defibrillator and the external defibrillator both deliver a shock at the same time, standard procedure dictates that you wait 30 to 60 seconds prior to re-shocking with the external defibrillator. In the meantime, chest compressions and manual ventilation may be commenced.

Intubation, artificial airways and other standard practices should be performed, despite the patient having a pacemaker.

It is also vital that urgent medical help be called as with all cardiac arrest patients. Remember, cardiac arrest patients are not normally transported in the ambulance unless they are revived on scene.

When does your heart get rest?

The electrical impulse reaches all the muscle tissue in the ventricles, and the ventricles contract. This electrical conduction pattern occurs approx. every 0.8 seconds.

How much blood does the heart pump in a minute?

An average heart pumps 2.4 ounces (70 milliliters) per heartbeat. An average heartbeat is 72 beats per minute. Therefore an average heart pumps 1.3 gallons (5 liters) per minute.

Which of the two heart sounds lub or dub is louder?

Rub Rub suggestion is from an Islamic site to prove that it calls for "Rab" another word for Allah or God in Arabic language.

Please don't be fooled as no scientific study has yet proved this, it's only a propaganda to attract people towards Islam religion.

By the way, I'm muslim, but don't believe these things as they are based on false allegations believing it is also a sins.............. why do we need such craps? there are many scientifically proven things in Holy Quran, is'nt that enough?

Thankyou
