Hermes (Mercury)

Mercury; was a messenger, and a god of trade, his name is related to the Latin word merx ("merchandise"; compare merchant, commerce, etc.), mercari (to trade), and merces (wages).

Hermes is the patron of athletes, thieves, liars, shepherds, cowherds, and travelers

It used to be a heralds wand; and Hermes was the god of heralds - being the herald and messenger of Zeus.

I not sure your question here, but Hermes personality was generally described as mischievous, and he was crafty and clever. He was the god of thieves, commerce, and those using wit (orators, poets).

His mother is Maia, who while she had no other children also fostered Arkas, son of Callisto who Hermes was sent for at Zeus, his father's request.

Hermes was related to all of the Olympians; Aphrodite was at one point his lover, his son-daughter was Hermaphroditos and also Priapos (who is argued to be a son of Dionysus being a deity of fertility and vegetation); among other divine children included Angelia (of unknown mother) and Eleusis whose mother was Daeira; the ladny Theoboule bore Palaistra, goddess of wrestling.

Pan and Nomios whose mother was Penelopeia; another 'pan' Agreus whose mother was Sose; the Nymphe Iphthime bore Hermes the three Satyr named Pherespondos, Lykos and Pronomos.

He is also credited to being the father of many Oreiades/Dryades by other Oreaides Nymphai.

He most assuredly had dealings with Apollo and Hercules; both having slept with Chione/Philonis, daughter of Daedalion on the same night, aside from the famed theft of Apollos and the slaying of his cattle.

The People how pray to Hermes(Mercury) and other gods are Greek Orthodox, people pray to Hermes because he is known as the golden angel of good luck. Zeus sent Hermes to order Calypso to free Odysseus and send him on his way home. Calypso greeted Hermes and honored him with ambrosia and red nectar. He told her of Zeus' demands as they ate. She was upset that Zeus would ask her give up her lover but she did not refuse. If Odysseus wanted to stay with Calypso then Zeus would permit it, but if Odysseus wanted to leave, Calypso could not use her charms to stop him. She thought that Odysseus might change his mind if he understood her love and power. She offered Odysseus immortality and endless youth but he was determined to return to his home or die trying. Calypso accepted her fate and agreed to let Odysseus leave unhindered. She refused to supply Odysseus with a raft or ship but she gave him some tools and the skillful Odysseus built a raft for himself. When it came time to leave, Calypso in her loving nature, gave Odysseus provisions and sent him on his way with a fair wind to speed him home. Calypso and Odysseus had two daughters, Nausithoos and Nausinoos.

Hermes, messenger of Zeus for most of the time, was a loner. He had no associates as such, but he was an Olympian. That means he was known and respected by all of the inhabitants of the fabled city of Olympus. As a boy he was a shepherd, so flocks of sheep and goats were his friends and of all the Olympians, he became closest to Apollo. His personality was always up and down, which is where the element mercury got its name(think back to mercury temperatures, how they were always up and down).
