Does the IUD prevent STDs?

No, it is only a contraceptive method and does not help prevent STD's unlike other contraceptive methods
No, Depo Provera offers no protections against sexually transmissible infections.
No. Depo Provera only protects against pregnancy, not STDs.

Is the iud safe?

IUDs are safe. My wife has successfully used one for more than three years. They are nice because they do not cause the side effects of many other birth control options. Unfortunately, at times, it can create some discomfort for the man because the string attached to the IUD can make contact with the penis during intercourse. In my experience, it is not often enough to suggest any other form of birth control. (of course they do not help prevent sexually transmitted diseases.) I don't recall the specifics, but the website for planned parenthood contains information about the pros and cons of all types of birth control, including IUDs. Good luck! I have an IUD Mirena, which was great until 2 days ago I became the less than 1% who can become pregnant and I didn't know what could happen until i read the mirena website and now I'm facing alot of scary stuff like i might lose the pregnancy you should know all the info before you decide.

What happens when Mirena cames out by itself?

When Mirena comes out by itself, you may be at risk for pregnancy. Use another method until you consult with your health care provider.

Can you use the IUD if you had a c-section?

Yes, there are times when it is possible to have a Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC). Women who have a low transverse scar from the previous C-section are eligible for VBAC. It can also depend on why the first c-section happened. If the mothers pelvis is small it may not be possible for VBAC, if the first baby didnt fit the second may not either. If the scar on the uterus is an up and down scar or vertical, a VBAC is not recommended due to the potential for uterine rupture. As the uterus grows during the pregnancy the body of the uterus gets thinner and may rupture with uterine contractions. This is not typically an issue with the low transverse uterine scar as that scar is thru a thicker portion of the uterus that does not thin out as much as the uterus grows during pregnancy.

What if you can't feel the IUD strings?

The most common reason that a woman doesn't feel the strings is that they are tucked just inside the cervical opening, or are high in the vagina. However, because missing strings could mean a missing IUD, a woman who can't feel the IUD strings should consider emergency contraception if she's had intercourse in the last five days, and should use a back up method of birth control until she's confirmed that the IUD is still in place. Your health care provider can do an exam and, if necessary, a very brief ultrasound to confirm the location of the IUD.

It may have fallen out and you are then not protected from pregnancy. Go to the doctor and get checked, you should have an annual check anyway.

It may be that your IUD has become displaced or fallen out. I suggest you ask for a scan to see what has happened as you may not be protected at all from pregnancy.

Go and see your doctor immediately because if you are pregnant, the IUD needs removing immediately because it can harm the baby

How do you use the IUD?

To remove and IUD, the health care provider inserts a speculum to get a good view of cervix, grasps the strings, and pulls gently and steadily until the IUD comes out. The strings are slippery monofilament, so usually the provider uses forceps to grasp the strings.

Can you be pregnant when you have and IUD and having periods and is the IUD causing me to have my period?

You can, but it's very rare. Often, women spot during the first few days/weeks of pregnancy at around the time when their period would have been because the fertilised egg implants in the womb lining and ruptures some blood vessels and many women mistake this for their period.

Does penicillin affect the IUD?

Amoxicillin (and other penicillin antibiotics) have been cleared of their anti-birth control effects. As it turns out, the research that made the claims are 20 years old, and flawed.

I lost a couple of the links, but the gist of it is: studies have shown that only a few specialized antibiotics effect the amount of BC in the bloodstream.

With that said, always use a second form of birth control, as diarrhea is a common side effect of Antibiotics and that CAN effect the pill. Plus, better safe then pregnant.

How long can an IUD stay in place?

A woman should keep an IUD in place until she wants to conceive, until the hormonal IUD reaches the end of its useful life, or indefinitely if she is not concerned about the IUD's effectiveness.

The risks of leaving it in depend on where it is situated as in some cases the IUD can injure the baby, placenta or uterus. In a number of cases the baby will be perfectly healthy and experience no ill-effects and in a small number of cases baby's have been born holding the IUD in their hand!

Can you remove an IUD after 2 years?

You should be able to safely remove it whenever you want. There are some that last up to 5 years, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you can't remove it for that long. The point of an IUD is that you can have safe, non-permanent contraception for as long as you choose.

Can the IUD and depo be used at the same time?

If you have the Paragard IUD, or if your hormonal IUD is at the end of its useful life, you could get a Depo Provera injection. It's an unusual thing to do. Talk with your health care provider about the benefits and disadvantages of this approach in your situation.

How long do you bleed after Mirena coil fitted?

I've heard that it can take some people 3 or more months for things to settle down. But there are things that your doctor can do to help you if your symptoms become unmanagable like mine. From my personal experience it was about 4 weeks.

How do you avoid pregnancy if the the woman is fertile?

Take birth control (pills, patch, ring, shot, etc), wear condoms, or practice abstinence. Avoid sex when you are ovulating.

Pregnancy solvedAbstinence is the only way to prevent pregnancy with 100% effectiveness. JUST DON'T DO IT! AnswerThere are many contraceptives available like the pill or contraceptive injections, however, to fully protect yourself against pregnancy AND sexually transmitted diseases you should really use a condom. AnswerNot having sex. Abstention is the guaranteed prevention. But there are various contraceptive devices (condom, coil et al) as well as the contraceptive pill. There are also surgical procedures to artificially sterilize.

The one method that works ALWAYS is not to have sexual intercourse. IF you are going to have intercourse, there are means of birth control that REDUCE the chances of becoming pregnant- nothing works EVERY time. Condoms (when worn and used correctly) are fairly effective. There are foam contraceptives, birth control pills, etc- and the rhythm method- not having intercourse during the period when you can get pregnant.

If you are in jovial mood and female keep away from Boys. If you are married and do not want babies. just swallow pills. Ask your male partner to wear a condom or you can use a diaphragm, insert spermicide gel into your vagina. or go for IUD, etc. Or keep your legs closed.

To be able to have sex without getting pregnant you need to use real contraceptives, and to use them right. Either go see a doctor, or buy yourself a packet of condoms.

You can prevent pregnancy by using a condom or birth control pills.

Does insurance cover the IUD?

The answer varies from one plan to another, depending on what coverage your employer provides. You'd have to call the number on the back of your card to find out if Implanon/Nexplanon is covered.

Can you use monistat while using Mirena?

Absolutely!

But we as women know periods can be messy. If you are using the cream where you put the medicine in the tube, and push it up into your vagina, then you of course may want to enter it at a time you are not bleeding, even with the pill form that you must insert.

But the answer is yes, it would be so unfortunate if you had to deal with a yeast infection an extra 3 to 5 days on top of your period.

What if you dont take your Mirena out after 5yrs?

It just ceases to work (although I understand that there is actually enough Levonorgestrol in it to last 7 years).
It just isn't active anymore. It's recommended that the plastic piece be taken before another year has passed. After 5 years, you can get pregnant. S
The effectiveness of Mirena IUD is related to the low dose of hormones - once you hit five years, you are no longer getting an effective dose of hormones to prevent ovulation and conception.

This may leave you at a slightly higher risk of ectopic pregnancy so the Mirena should be removed as soon as possible. It can be replaced on the same day the old one is removed.

If you no longer have an OB/GYN doctor, you can go to any Planned Parenthood office.

What are the side effects of Mirena?

Although it can be a great contraceptive choice, the Mirena IUD has several potential side effects one should be aware of. Some of the less evasive side effects can be: headache, acne, and change in menstrual flow. Some of the more evasive side effects include mood changes, breast tenderness and lower abdominal and back pain. There are also some more serious risks such as ovarian cysts, perforation of the uterus wall and infection.

What are the signs of pregnancy if you're on depo provera?

AnswerIf you mean what are some similarities in side affects of the depo and being pregnant some of them are: breast tenderness, no periods or less bleeding, weight gain or loss, nausea, and other things less common.

Its different in every woman but usually the same symptoms when your not on any contraceptive medication. If you suspect pregnancy see your doctor.

Its unlikely to become pregnant while on DEPO. If you think you're pregnant, take a pregnancy test. The symptoms would be the same symptoms as any woman gets when she's pregnant.

Most women start menstruating within a couple weeks of the IUD removal.

yes...happened to me...inform yourself and do not have it pulled justn because doc says so...

While I'm sorry for the loss of the person who answered earlier, it's important to understand the significant risks to the life and health of a woman who chooses to continue a pregnancy with the IUD in place. Informing yourself is key, as she wrote.
