40 watt isnt very loud but is louder then 10 watt, depends what the requirements are, i listen to loud music and dont have to worry about neighbours so i bought a 140 watt system which gives me the volume i need

iPods, like all batteries vary over time. A new iPod can last many, many hours without failing, whereas one several years old can easily die in a short amount of time.

It also depends on what you use the power for. Videos require lots of power unlike music.
