Since the IQ is based on an average of individual IQ's, The average IQ of any sufficiently large group is 100, compared to other people in the same group. If what you're really asking is how much mental sharpness has an average 50-year old man lost, compared to, for example, the average 21 year old man, that's a different question.

Generally IQ is measured at any age by asking a series of questions and comparing the number the person answered correctly to "everyone else." An IQ of 149 is very high for anyone. Depending on whether or not the IQ is based on 15 standard deviations or 16 standard deviations, this IQ will put you slightly above or below the highest 99.9% of the population (respectively). An IQ score is supposed to be independent of age, however people with very high IQ test scores as children often test at lower IQ test scores as adults.

An I.Q. score of 100 means you have scored average for your age group. By definition 100 is the average score, and scores other than that relate to a deviation from the norm (100).

One will have to take 3 or more IQ tests ,in a clinical setting, to find ones average, but with a score of 81, the next two could be within a range of 15, add those up and divide by three and you have got your average IQ. However if one did the test online one might have had test anxiety, or was distracted and online tests don not give one a definitive answer and do not give ones total IQ score, such as a professional test.

Because of differences in test score interpretation they no longer accept just an "IQ Score" from a test. Candidates for membership in Mensa must achieve a score at or above the 98th percentile on a standard test of intelligence. This means that you must score as well, or better than 98% of the people taking the test.

The reason that they no longer accept a simple "IQ Score" is that the standard deviation of one test is not equal to other tests. This being said it means that there is really no way to compare scores of one test with another. People may score 140 on on test, but score 130 on another totally different test. There would be no way to compare these two scores to interpret which score was higher. Some tests maximum score is less than another test's maximum score making it appear that a person scored lower than other people who took the other test. If you scored 140 and I scored 170, but we took totally different tests you may have actually scored higher than me. If your test maxed out at 145 score and mine maxed our at 300 my score would then appear to be significantly lower...
