Is there any current issues in Iraq?
yes there is current issues in Iraq
one of the main issues in Iraq is oil law or hydrocarbon law. If the law passes, the profit sharing would be open to the foreign companies. Yet Iraqi oil industry has highly nationalized in 1970s. Another issue is Status of Kirkuk. there are 3 main groups that could be counted within Iraq which are Sunni, Shiite and Kurdish. As Kirkuk is rich in oil, its sharing among those groups remains as a question. Besides as Kirkuk - Ceyhan oil pipeline passes through there, it has a value as a transition region. Status of Kirkuk is important for both territorial integrity of Iraq and independence movements of the Northern Iraqi Kurds. Other problems are; KRG (Kurdish regional government), US troops withdrawal- status of forces agreement cited that complete withdrawal will be taken place in 2011- and sectarian violence mainly among Sunni and Shiite factions.
When did Mesopotamia become Iraq?
The area of the Middle East defined as Mesopotamia evolved gradually into a more clearly defined region known as 'Iraq' when it was under Arab rule, between the 10th and 13th Centuries. Iraq means 'old' in Arabic- it was so named because it covered the areas known to have been the cradle of the oldest forms of Mesopotamian culture. However, although this marked the approximate boundaries of the nation we know today as Iraq, in those days it wasn't a unified country, nor was it independent. It was broken up into a series of caliphates and tribal regions, ruled by various sultans and Arab kings, who regularly fought each other for control of each other's fiefdoms. Iraq was also subject over the Centuries to occupation and domination by various empires and countries, including by the Mongols, the Persians and the Ottoman Empire. In the West, that area of the Middle East was known as Mesopotamia up until 1922, when the modern state of Iraq became established following the end of the British mandate, which was granted at the end of WW1. Kuwait was also created at the same time by the Allied powers, who hived off the South-East section of Iraq and installed a tame monarchy in order to secure a puppet ally in the region, whose oil wealth they could have easy access to. Claims by Saddam Hussein following his invasion of Kuwait in 1990 that it had always been a part of Iraq were thus actually right!!

How to send cookies to soldiers in Iraq?
There are a lot of different ways that you can do this. My favorite is a variation of the cake in a jar recipe.
You bake the cookies as usual and let them cool. Then put them in a glass mason jar, usually smaller jars do better, and put them back in the oven for about two minutes. While your jar is in the oven boil the mason jar lid. After the 2 minutes carefully take the jar from the oven and very carefully put the lid on the mason jar. It should ping within 10 to 15 minutes. If not repeat the process. Let the jar cool and when you're ready pack it up with lots of bubble wrap and send it off.
I like this method the best because it seems the cookies keep their"fresh from the oven" taste.
Another way is to put the cookies in tubberware and put a piece of white bread in with the cookies. The bread goes stale & the cookies stay fresh. It sounds odd, but it really does work.
You could also go with putting the cookies in a small tin and they should keep fairly well too.
Hope this helps. I've been sending quite a few batches of cookies to my husband and his friends. They love having anything home baked.
