How does an iPod scroll wheel work?
The Click Wheel is a touch-sensitive ring that you use to navigate through all of iPod's menus and control all of its features. It provides two ways to input commands: by sliding your finger around the wheel and by pressing buttons located under and in the middle of the wheel.
Under the plastic surface of the Click Wheel, there are four mechanical buttons (Menu, back, forward, play/pause), and there's one button in the center (select).
You've got five buttons and five corresponding contacts on the motherboard. When you
press, say, the right side of the wheel while you're listening to a song, the wheel pushes down the forward button. The underside of each rubber button is metal, so pressing it completes the corresponding circuit on the motherboard. The motherboard tells the processor this circuit is complete, and the processor tells the operating system to fast-forward through the song.
The Click Wheel's touch-sensitive function lets you move through lists, adjust volume and fast forward through a song by moving your finger around the stationary wheel. It works a lot like a laptop touch-pad. In fact, the company that supplied the Click Wheel for the 4G iPod was Synaptics, most widely known for making laptop touch-pads. For the 5G, Apple created its own proprietary Click Wheel design based on the same capacitive sensingprinciple as the previous Synaptics-designed Click Wheel.
Under the plastic cover of the Click Wheel, there is a membrane embedded with metallic channels. Where the channels intersect, a positional address is created, like coordinates on a graph.
At its most basic, a capacitive-sensing system works like this: The system controller supplies an electrical current to the grid. The metal channels that form the grid are conductors -- they conduct electricity. When another conductor -- say, your finger -- gets close to the grid, the current wants to flow to your finger to complete the circuit. But there's a piece of non-conductive plastic in the way -- the Click Wheel cover. So the charge builds up at the point of the grid that's closest to your finger. This build-up of an electrical charge between two conductors is called capacitance. The closer the two conductors are without touching, the greater the capacitance.
The "sensing" part of the system comes in with the controller. The Click Wheel controller (see above) is programmed to measure changes in capacitance. The greater the change in capacitance at any given point, the closer your finger must be to that point. When the controller detects a certain change in capacitance, it sends a signal to the microprocessor. As you move your finger around the wheel, the charge build-up moves around the wheel with it. Every time the controller senses capacitance at a given point, it sends a signal. That's how the Click Wheel can detect speed of motion -- the faster you move your finger around the wheel, the more compacted the stream of signals it sends out. And as the microprocessor receives the signals, it performs the corresponding action -- increasing the volume, for instance. When your finger stops moving around the wheel, the controller stops detecting changes in capacitance and stops sending signals, and the microprocessor stops increasing the volume.

Just open it, and it will update automatically with the current song. The songs don't even have to be from the iTunes Store!

First, you have to plug your new Ipod touch into your computer. Next,(If you haven't already), download Itunes. Once your Ipod is plugged into your computer and Itunes is up and running, on the side it will show devices. Click on that. After you click on that, it should say, "Welcome to your new Ipod." After you have entered in your information, you should be good to go!

How do you combine a multi-track song from garageband into one to drag it into your itunes?
Have iTunes and GarageBand open simultaneously. Drag the songs you want into garageband and edit as you'd like. When you are finished click on share from the menu up top and select "Send Song to iTunes."
Not the same! A song in a commercial CD usually/ normally was stored in an AIFF format. If you imported/ converted this song into an AAC format, then there will be some quality lost. And, if you then export/ convert this song (from AAC format into AIFF), that lost part is never be regained; the later AIFF song is not the same with the first(original) one.
Are itunes ringtones only for iPhones?
Sorry, yes. but ther are some really cool ones. it just makes you want an iphone really bad.
You can choose any location for the export from Audacity such as a "Music" folder on your Desktop or even the iTunes "Music" folder if you have one. However you must still import this file from the exported location into the iTunes Library (which makes it visible when you view Library > Music on the left-hand panel of iTunes). There are two ways to import your exported audio files into iTunes:
1. plug your phone into the computer
2. check to ensure the ringtones you want are checked (selected)
3. make sure your sync ringers (not the correct name but you get the point) box is checked
4. sync the iPhone
That should do it. If not you can try rebooting the computer, resetting your phone. If all else fails you can clean sweep your phone and start over. Try adding a few regular songs to your phone (not ringers) and see if that works. I feel like that will push the sync on into completion
ok i done everything you said... and it poped up a box that says (some of the items in the itunes library, including (name of song) were not copied to the iPhone because they could not be found... what do i need to do now? it didnt copy any of the ringtones to my phone!?!?
It says that when you've added a file to your iTunes and then moved the file location and it still tries to find it in the old location. If the song your trying to make a ringtone from has a little error icon next to it in your iTunes that is the problem and you need to double click it and find that file. If not then I'm not sure of anything else to do. If your using some other software other than iTunes to make these ringers then maybe iTunes is blocking that software somehow.
thank you soo much ur my new bff i didnt kno tht i couldn't delete them until i syncd them... i kept deletin them before i did... how do u kno all this stuff?!?! lol bff forever and ever ;)
Once you mess up enough you learn what you did wrong. That's how I learn a lot of things

You can restore it using itunes. You have to get the phone into restore mode first. Open up itunes on your computer. Plug the usb plug into the computer but dont plug in the iphone. With your iphone powered OFF, hold down the home button and plug the iphone up at the same time. It should put the phone into recovery mode. The phone will say "plug into itunes". Then itunes should recognize the phone in recovery mode and ask if you want to restore. If it doesn't work the first time keep trying holding down the home button and plugging to the computer.
You should try and find the owner of the phone or turn it in to the cell phone company so they can return the phone to the rightful owner.
