Jackie Robinson hit 137 runs in his 10-year career.

He's life teaches us about potential commitment and bravery. I wish I had a a chance to meet him someday but unfortunately he died in 1972.

He also, took huge risks because for him to be the first that mean that he was pouring his heart out into this game. He could've been taking dangerous risks but it was worth it.

Jackie Robinson never played for the Red Sox. You may think so because you see his number retired at Fenway Park but his number is retired for all MLB teams. He only played for the Brooklyn Dodgers.

To blacks he was a hero. Most whites cheered him on, some booed him mercilessly, some yelled un-printable profanities at him.

Brooklyn fans, who had no trouble identifying with someone being put down for not having the "proper" heritage, had no trouble cheering for him.

Brooklyn manager, Leo Durocher, was quite blunt to any Dodger who did not want to play with him: "I'm the manager of this team, and I say he plays. What's more, I say he can make us all rich. And if any of you cannot use the money, I will see that you are all traded."

The Dodgers signed Robinson to a minor league contract with their Montreal farm club in 1945. In 1946 his first year at Montreal he lead the team to victory in the International league World Series. He was called up to the Dodgers in April 1947 and played in his first major league game (first major league game by a negro (as hey were then called in the twentieth century) on opening day, April 15, 1947.

Jackie's Grandfather was a slave in Jefferson County, Florida.
