Why does PTO-clutch on a John Deere LX176 keep cutting off and it runs for a shorter and shorter period of time after reengaging the switch?

One of my clients tractors the same model has been doing the same thing. We discovered it is the PTO engagement switch. His will get to where it will cut the PTO off and not engage at all. When it does this, he will push the switch and pull it out repeatedly very quickly and it will engage again. If yours does the same thing, the switch is likely bad. There are aftermarket switches available for around 16 bucks. Just Google part number AM118802. Only difference is the little knob will be red instead of yellow. The part at the John Deere dealer is over 30 bucks. Also, BEFORE you spend any money, check the main ground wire at the left rear side of the tractor. Simply follow the negative battery wire to where it connects to the engine mounting bolt. Make SURE this area is clean and the bolt and nut securing the ground is tight. If it's loose, or the connection is dirty, this could be your problem as well. It is not likely the PTO clutch itself, as it is an electromagnet and will either work or not work. There is usually NO in between for those. Hope that helps.

The John Deere RWSG015007982 is a part number associated with a specific component rather than a complete machine. To determine the year of a John Deere equipment model, you typically need the model number rather than a part number. If you have the model number, I can help you find the year.

How do you get the bolts out of a john deere 110 lawn blades I cannot turn them?

You will need a 15/16" wrench for the blade side and a 7/8" backup wrench for the outer pulley side of the deck. First jam against the deck, the blade you are changing, with short length of 2" x 4", 2" x 6", or what ever else does the job. The blade nut is a self jamming right hand threaded nut so it will require a wrench, for the entire length of thread, to remove it. Once the blade splines drop out of engagement with the shaft, you will need to use a backup wrench on the pulley nut, to prevent the shaft from turning. Remove the old blade and note the right side up orientation. Reverse procedure for installation of new blade being sure to install with the proper side up.

Hope this helps. I just changed mine yesterday and am going from memory. However, I believe the wrench sizes are correct. If not, adjust sizes where necessary as the procedure itself works well.

Also, the mulching attachment I installed at the same time works very well even though the attachment fit where it obfuscates the discharge port is quite poor.

What causes the John Deere mower to start steering hard?

A mower may start to steer hard from many things:

-Flat/soft tires

-Lack of grease on the front axle or front axle joints

-Lack of grease on the rack/pinion gears

-Lack of grease on the steering wheel bearing

-Crack in the axle itself, allowing the corners of the axle to move

I have had all of these happen to me and they are relatively quick to rule out.
