It depend on the style of karate. In my style, a 6th dan is a plan black belt with the name on one end and the style on the other. In some styles I have seen a red and black broad stripe type belt worn.

Once I saw an animated Street Fighter movie. In a part of Ryu's childhood, it showed that Ken kicked Ryu down a tiny pair of steps. Ken asked if Ryu was okay. Ryu thought he was alright, but he looked hurt in his head (you know, there was a bit of blood), so Ken took off his headband and straped to to Ryu's head.

It was in the movie, but I don't really know if it is right or not.

Ka is a Japanese suffic that indicates someone that does what ever the first part of the word is. In this case, it is someone who practices karate.

It will depend on the school or style of karate. In some styles, a purple belt is one of the levels on the way to black belt. My particular style of Shorin Ryu does not have a purple belt. It is not a common color.

There are different things to learn at different places

Reaching the rank of blackbelt takes a long time and dedication. In most styles it takes at least three years and the average is closer to 4 years. One has to have learned all of the basic kata and techniques required. It also requires the right attitude.

Japanese karate as it is known today originated on Okinawa. Gichin Funakoshi arrived in Japan to do demonstrations in 1915, though there are earlier arrivals. This developed into Shotokan Karate which spread throughout the world.

Karate is a martial art which is used for self-defense. It not only aims at keeping you fit but also enables you to face any life-threatening situation. However the focus is never at aggression but to defend yourself as quickly as possible.

Kan is a Japanese word referring to a place or building. Ryu is family or style. Both are often used to specify a grouping of martial artists that share a common heritage. Both can be used in a style name, for example Shido Kan Shorin Ryu.

The style practiced by Sokkon Matsumura. According to official history, the very first style taught by Matsumura, is the very first style of Karate HOWEVER, Okinawan tradition holds that prior to Matsumura, a style had been practiced in Okinawa known as "Te," called To Te Jitsu by Japanese mainlanders. "Te" was developed around the 300's A.D. following a catastrophic war between the two Ryu Kyuan Kingdoms which devastated most of Okinawa's population.

According to legend "it took 20 years for the living to bury all the dead." The Okinawan King ordered his best soldiers, his personal guard, to have all weapons on the island destroyed, additionally, to maintain order, he ordered them to develop an unarmed style which later on, over the course of 1,500 years almost from the moment Kung Fu was born, borrowed heavily from Chinese Kung Fu. Karate does have many techniques similar to Kung Fu but if you have ever seen Kung Fu routines, and even some of the older Katas, the styles are totally different. Kung Fu does not rely on power hits so much; where a Karateka emphasizes "hurt bombs," a Kung Fu person "rains fists." In Okinawa, they can get away with such a fighting style because Okinawans tend to be short but strongly built, their body type favors a fighting style like Karate. Southern Chinese people though tend to be short and thin, and because they are physically weak even by Chinese standards (northern Chinese tend to be much stronger physically), southern styles of Kung Fu emphasize rapid fire hitting, especially Wing Chung. If you can't hit him hard, then hit him a lot, and in a very short time; that is the general mindset of most southern styles. Among northern styles, because the people are larger, and generally more well-muscled, you'll see a lot more power blows. The aim of Okinawan Karate, because its users are short and stout, is to breach the distance gap. Obviously, a taller, longer limbed fighter has an edge, the only way a shorter fighter can compensate for the gap, is by sliding extremely rapidly towards his target, that is sliding towards them with such tremendous speed, reach doesn't matter.

The fundamental philosophy of the footwork in Karate, is to move rapidly but powerfully, that way you are ALWAYS "set to punch." Even moving rapidly, a Karateka's punching power is never compromised, see, that is a weakness boxing has.

Anyone that knows more than you do can teach. Some styles and schools have junior instructor programs where they use older teachers to instruct younger students.

foreign prerequisites...

culture and history...

So obviously the proper research is required; go online, talk to people, seek guidance. Studying abroad will call for double the arrangements and research.

Pros:

This is a completely new experience, challenge, and opportunity. It will certainly stand out on a resume.

Also, a lot of universities in Europe are tuition free, like Germany, and Norway, plus Australia. Even for international students.

Choose carefully, and remember that tons of people have decided to study abroad, and have had an amazing experience. It depends on you.

If the price is concerning you, tuition free universities take a bulk from the stress, and keep an eye out for possible grants, scholarships and stipens.

The belt orders vary some from school to school. In general, the belts will go white, yellow, orange, green, blue, brown and then to black. if you reach the level after 9th black belt its red belt (top one)
