When referring to a person it's generally a term directed towards a male whom feels the constant need to rush to a female's aid. Said person also generally has a reason for doing so, or at least it's perceived that their reason for doing so is to gain a deeper level of trust from the aforementioned female for obvious reasons.
The Teutons were a European-germanic race, led by Emperor Barbarrossa, who I think took over/adopted the 'Holy Roman Empire', which in the eleventh and twelfth century was expanded all over a very large amount of Europe including what today is France, Germany, austria, etc.
The Teutons were more well known for their participance in the crusades (a religious war spanning from the 1100s to the 1400s), a war to protect the Holy city of Jerusalem from invasions from the moors/sarecens (led by the famous Saladiin).
During the crusades, the Teutons were often known as 'The Hospitalers', as I believe they set up many camps in the desert, offering their own and other army's troops water and supplies.
Teutonic knights were heavily-armoured, skilled troops, who were spurred on by religious 'propaganda' from the pope, who had originally called for the crusades to come about.
As for Emperor Barbarrossa, he died after he and his troops had had to go on a desert crossing along dangerous roads to get to a Hospitaller camp. When he did finally get there, he and his troops were so glad to see a lake in the camp, that Barbarrossa mis-judged the depth of the lake and jumped in without bothering to take his heavy armour off, and sadly and ironically drowned.
Sorry I've made this answer into a bit of an essay, but I'm sort of used to writing essays because my history teacher makes us write so many of them!
How did you become a knight in medieval times?
Today, there are different ways one can become a knight.
People can become knights because a sovereign who is able to knight someone wishes to reward them for some meritorious public service. Sir Alec Guiness and Sir Elton John are examples of people who received the knighthood in this way. Some European kings and the Pope grant knighthoods.
A person can be elevated to knighthood by an independent order of chivalry, such as the Order of the Knights of Malta, and this is also normally done for public service. The Knights of Malta is one of four continuation of the Knights Hospitaller that are closely related to each other
There are a number of orders of knighthood, such as the Knights of Columbus, which have no background in chivalry, but are nonetheless worthwhile organizations. These are usually fraternal organizations. People in these organizations can be called knights, but it is not quite the same thing as being granted a title by monarch or historical order of chivalry.
There are a number of self-styled orders of knights, some of which have been based on fraudulent claims of one sort or another. To join such an organization, you pay money. The legitimacy of the title you get is no greater than if you simply give yourself a title.
There is a link below to an article on Self-styled Orders, and another to the the Fount of Honor, which relates to the foundations of legitimate orders of chivalry.
A medieval knight was a mounted warrior who served a lord in the Middle Ages. They were skilled in combat, sworn to chivalry, and typically wore armor and carried weapons such as swords and lances. What equipment is needed to become a knight?

No, medieval armour was designed to be worn like modern body armour. The weight of this armour was taken up by the shoulders and the waist, but in general armour did not impede movement (even in full plate armour a man can turn summersaults).
A shield is a separate defensive protection, generally of wood reinforced with metal, which is carried on the left arm. It can also have a strap designed to pass over one shoulder. Medieval shields were initially round or kite-shaped, becoming smaller and more triangular as armour became more effective. By the late medieval period shields were often not carried at all, leaving both hands free.
Shields were generally constructed of planks of wood butted together and were intended to stop arrows and crossbow bolts, which would penetrate most types of metal armour.
The links below take you to images of 12th century armour and shields:
