Edwin Perkins was always fascinated by chemistry and enjoyed inventing things. When his family moved to southwest Nebraska at the turn of the century, young Perkins experimented with home-made concoctions in his mother's kitchen and created the Kool-Aid story. The forerunner to KOOL-AID was Fruit Smack, which was sold via mail order in the 1920s. Edwin Perkins re-named the drink Kool-Ade and then Kool-Aid in 1927.

To my knowledge it is no longer being produced. Really sucks too, as it was my favorite. I've scoured Massachusetts, Georgia, and Alabama and haven't found it since 2006.

It was extremely popular in the 50s and 60s in Lincoln, Nebraska. I helped in my aunt's grocery store. We would get one carton of all the non-root beer flavors and one carton of just root beer. The root beer was always sold out long before all the other flavors began to even look like we were selling any of them. Hard to imagine how it came to be unpopular. I still make my own (uncarbonated) from the concentrate.

Follow these instructions" Start with a gallon of water. Put 2 packs of Kool Aid in the water, and then add 8 tablespoons of sugar (or sweeten to taste). Stir until the sugar is dissolved. You will know when the sugar is dissolved because you will no longer hear it scrapping against your spoon on the bottom.

Of course, these instructions can be modified. You could use 1 pack of Kool Aid and a half gallon of water or modify the amount of water used so the Kool Aid tastes just right to you. You can also modify the amount of sugar used or substitute another sweetener, like honey, for the sugar. It's important to make sure the sugar is completely dissolved, though!

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer (sorry). But i can confirm. I stuck a diet Pepsi and some Pepsis in the top shelf of the fridge (by the freezer). The diet Pepsi froze and exploded. The Pepsis were fine - not even slushy.

Yes, if you drink a lot of it. But that wont necessarily make you sick, just a stomach ache.

here's how you remember it: there is solute and solvent, and solvent has one more letter in it, so there's more of it, and so that's the water in the kool-aid and water mixture. so when there's more solute, then there's more kool-aid in the water.

The way I did mine(I did red) was, I took it straight out of bottle I mixed it in to drink, and I heated it up on the stove. I dipped my hair into it, and did it until it was even. It took ten minutes. My friend had to help me, but it shouldn't take too long. I did it in late December, and right now it is a faded red. It's early June now, and the color has not turned a weird shade of orange.
