Is lord Krishna a man or woman?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Actually All Gods are both. In one picture it shows a combination of Lord Shiva and his wife, Parvati.

The gender of Shiva:We are endowed with seven basic forces, using which we can control our thoughts and actions. Each of these forces is represented by a Hindu god.

The seven basic Hindu gods:

They are,

1. Dreaming force - Indra

2. Illusory force - Shakti

3. Voluntary force - Brahma

4. Semi voluntary force - Vishnu

5. Involuntary force - Shiva

6. Status altering force - Shani

7. Compulsive force - Yama

The Hindu gods and goddesses:

Strictly speaking, all of the seven basic forces are made of both Voluntary force and Involuntary force, in different proportions.

The Involuntary component of the basic forces symbolizes god and the Voluntary component symbolizes goddess.

Of the seven possible goddesses the goddesses associated with the central three forces i.e. the Trimurti are worshipped.

Brahman, the supreme Hindu god, is pure Involuntary force. However, it is not considered as male as it should not have any characters.

Shiva and Parvati:

The Involuntary Shiva force too has a Voluntary component that is represented by Parvati. The voluntary component is necessary because we can't directly gain conrol over the Involuntary Shiva force.

In the middle, the Involuntary Shiva force has voluntary and Involuntary forces in equal quantity. This part of the Involuntary Shiva force is represented by Ardhanareeshawara.

Therefore, Shiva is undoubtedly a man.

If Lord Krishna loved Radha then why he did marry her and he married other womans so this means he cheated Radha?

User Avatar

Asked by NadinMathew

Krishna was with all the devos in sabha. He started to vibrate and from his own body his shakti came out in the form of Radha. She was so beautiful, and Krishna was so shyam. Someone made fun of their couple. Radha got angry and cursed him. That same person cursed Radha and said she will never be able to unite with Krishna (will not get married). However, there is the story of Radha and Krishna getting married by Brahma in the forest. Radha is Krishna's energy/shakti. He cannot live without her, and she cannot live without him. She is not a woman, nor a jiva. She is a part of Krishna. She did not take birth. She emerged from him. Literally, they are one. You cannot have an image of Krishna alone. Krishna alone is incomplete without his Radha.

What god to pray first in Hindu temple and how to pray in Hindu temple?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

At a Hindu temple (or mandir) we first wash our hands and feet as to cleanse ourselves and then that we take off our footwear outside the temple. Then only do we enter the temple. We ring the bell so that our prayers may be heard and then fold our hands in front of the deity and pray. Our prayers and worship methods are god-specific like we offer milk (pour it on the deity) to Lord Shiva, offer Oil (pour it on the deity) to Lord Shani, laddus (a type of sweet in the shape of a small ping pong ball) to Lord Ganesha. After that the pundit (godman) puts tikka (a paste of herbs like sandalwood) on our forehead and gives us prasad (some eatables which are blessings of the lord).

You need not give offerings to the lord as it is no compulsion you can just go fold your hands pray in front of the lord receive prasad from the pundit and leave with a peaceful soul.

Who was the charioteer of Shri Krishna?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

King Shalya was the brother of Madri (mother of Nakula and Sahadeva), as well as the ruler of Madra-desa or the kingdom of Madra. Thus, he was the maternal uncle of Nakula and Sahadeva and was loved and revered by the Pandavas.

The Pandavas had counted on Shalya joining their side with his huge army. On the way to assist the Pandavas in the Kurukshetra War, Shalya was tricked by Duryodhana, who arranged a huge feast for Shalya and his men. When Shalya was impressed by the hospitality of his host who he mistakenly thought to be Yudhisthira, he offered to be at his host's service. Unable to turn down Duryodhana's request to join the Kauravas, Shalya met Yudhisthira and apologized for his mistake. Yudhishtira, knowing that Shalya was a great charioteer and forecasting that Shalya would someday be asked to be the charioteer of Karna, extracted a vow from Shalya to the effect that Shalya will demoralise Karna and dampen his spirits. Shalya assured the Pandavas that he would do everything possible to demoralise Karna and dampen his spirits.

Shalya served as Karna's charioteer during the latter's battle with Arjuna, while continuously praising the Pandava prince and citing Karna's shortcomings. Shalya took over the leadership of the Kaurava army on the eighteenth and last day of the great battle after the death of Karna when it was becoming rapidly clear that the war was a lost cause, and close to the end of the battle he was killed by King Yudhishtira with a spear. Shalya was the second to last Kaurava commander-in-chief and after his death, the Kauravas were left leaderless and broke ranks fleeing from the slaughter despite Duryodhana's best efforts.

Why does Krishna wear a Peacock feather?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The following story will tell how SriKrishna came to wear peacock feathers:

When one day Krishna woke first from a rest in the forest with his cowherd friends, he decided to wake everyone and call the cows grazing at a distance by playing his flute. When Krishna blew the nectar of his lips into the flute, a melodious raga with a slow rhythm and a deep base emerged from its end. This wonderful vibration enchanted the peacocks in and around the Govardhan hills. Their hearts began to sing in happiness and fill the skies with their own song. The resonant vibrations from the flute encouraged the peacocks to dance. Krishna, who is the source of all dramatic arts, was pleased with their dance and encouraged them by his kind glances and sweet smiling. They cried with joy and it sounded all over the hills. In time, their sounds became indistinguishable from the echoes. They became excited and jumped up and down, flapping their wings. As the peacocks danced, the kings of peacocks made his way to the lotus feet of SriKrishna, touches His holy feet and makes a sound which SriKrishna understands as a thanking note and requesting Him to dance with them. SriKrishna accepts to dance and moves amidst them, dancing like the peacocks increasing the tempo and playing to the rhythm of His steps. The bliss of the peacocks increased multifold when SriKrishna danced with them. It was so overwhelming, that some peacocks fainted. All the animals and cowherds of the Govardhan hills stood transfixed, unable to move their eyes away from the dance of SriKrishna. The flute in SriKrishna's hand seeing the uncommon performance of its master began to sing on its own. The spectacle was extremely splendid when seen from the top of the Govardhan hills, the heaven and even the netherland. They danced for a long time and slowly the tired peacocks stopped dancing. Then Krishna danced to the rhythm of His own steps. After many days, when he stopped dancing, there was an enchanting silence. The king of the peacocks approached SriKrishna with great humility, bowed down his head and said, "You have created a festival of bliss for which we remain eternally indebted to You. It is our duty to offer you 'Gurudakshina'. I request You to accept our only opulence, our plumage. Wear them on your crown as a decoration." With large tears of ecstasy, the king of peacocks dropped many divine feathers. SriKrishna lovingly accepted the offering of the peacocks and picked up the feathers and to everybody's joy, placed a few of them on his turban. Thus he came to wear the peacock feathers.

What are Names of 8 wives of lord Krishna?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Krishna was told to have 8 wives (or the Ashta-Bharyas). They are:

  1. Srimati Rukmini Devi (or "Rukmini"): Of all his wives, Krishna loved Rukmini the most. She was his favorite wife. As his first wife she was his main consort (called a Patrini).

Originally Rukmini was the daughter of the great King Bhishmaka, Lord of Vidarbha. He in no way wanted to have Krishna marry his daughter and he was in the process of betrothing her away to Prince Shishupala of Chedi. Since Rukmini was so in love with Krishna, and he with her, Krishna stole her away on her wedding day and took her to Dwaraka where they wed.

  2. Satyabhama: The tale of his second wife begins in her previous life. She was host to much suffering in her life and after her death she sought shelter in Vishnu's "celestial palace (Vaikuntha)." While she was there she was a tireless servant for Vishnu and his care-taker. So much so that he promised she would be one of his wives in their next incarnation.

During this life Krishna (Vishnu's reincarnation) sought to always make her happy. He did this by doing whatever she wished, irregardless of the wish. A tale is told of her infamous tantrums; while the Lord Indra came to Earth and visited Krishna he complemented Rukmini's beauty and gave her a Parijata flower. Satyabhama threw a tantrum and Krishna went into the spirit realm and brought her back an entire Parijata tree to plant.

However, while these tantrums were not always appreciated, Krishna loved her fighting spirit. She was gifted with archery in warfar and also was very good at picking arguments which entertained Krishna immensely.

  3. Jambavati: She was actually given in marriage to Krishna by her father, bear-king Jambavan. She was a very devoted disciple of Lord Rama.
  4. Kalindi: She was the daughter of the Sun god Surya. She also was technically the keeper of the River Yamuna. When Krishna saw her, she was in deep penance. She was absolutely obsessed with marrying Vishnu and could not love another. Since he saw her devotion Krishna offered marriage.
  5. Mitravrinda: She was sister to the Kings of Avantipura.
  6. Nagnajiti: She was Princess of Kosala.
  7. Bhadra: She was actually his cousin. She chose him as her husband in a Swayamvara Ceremony.
  8. Lakshana: To win her hand in marriage, Krishna competed in an archery competition. He competed with Arjuna and Duryodhana, each who threw the match because they knew Krishna's passion for her.

How do you become a Hare Krishna disciple?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Ok so that last answer was very bias. There's nothing wrong with becoming a Krishna Devotee ,in fact the changes I've seen in my friends lives as well as mine have been astronomical. But again that's not the answer to your question.

The first thing you need to do is chant the Hare Krshna Mantra.

Hare Krshna, Hare Krshna, Krshna Krshna, Hare Hare

Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare

That is the first principle in devotional service, mantra means "sound that liberates the mind from ignorance". The chanting of Gods holy names.

You can do this by chanting (chanting beads preferred or otherwise know as Japa beads) or in a group with other devotees in song which is known as kirtan.

Next Eating Prasadam

In other words eating spiritually.

The food you eat be prepared for Krishna and offered before you eat it for yourself

there for it becomes karma free.

This includes no meat eating, as meat eating continues the chain of suffering in this world and makes you a contributor.

also to follow the four regulative principles on what to avoid

1.) Eating meat, fish , or eggs.

2.)Gambling

3.) The use of intoxicants

4.)illicit sex

And of course reading the Bhagavad Gita and other Krsna literature, and associating with devotees. We are who we are closest too, as well as we are what we eat.

The great thing about Hare Krishna consciousness is that you can take on as little or as much as your ready for. If you do follow through though, with even a few of these you'll be sure to notice a difference in your life.

Hope this helped some, enjoy!

Is Krishna a myth?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

yes, Krishna is very real. In fact He is situated in the hearts of all living things. Known as supersoul or Paramatma. "Krishna" means "the all-attractive one." contrary to what each of us may think about each other, God, or Krishna, has been, is, and always will be the most attractive. So, understanding this, we can also understand that Krishna,God, is the source of all that is and ever will be. Many peoples all over the world have different names for God, but we can understand it is the same God.

PS He was born July,19 3228 BC

Why does Hindu goddess Krishna have a flute?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

To understand this we must know the unique nature of Hinduism, the purpose of Hindu gods and the musical instruments associated with them.

The Unique feature of Hinduism:

Hinduism is not a code of conduct based religion. In this the inertial force that facilitates or retards what we do is manipulated to gain control over our thoughts and actions.

We vary the inertial force by moving the center of gravity.

The seven basic Hindu gods:

There are seven centers of gravity in our body and each of them is represented by a Hindu god.

They are,

1. Feet - Indra

2. Knees - Shakti

3. Hips - Brahma

4. Abdomen - Vishnu

5. Chest - Shiva

6. Neck - Shani

7. Head - Yama.

Hindu gods and musical instruments:

The idols of each of the seven basic Hindu gods is such that a mere look at them would move our center of gravity to the position associated with it. The music associated with the god makes the shifting of the center of gravity more reliable and precise.

Vishnu and the conch:

Vishnu symbolically represents water because he symbolizes the semi voluntary force, which makes life flexible. He is associated with Conch, which is found in water.

Disadvantages of Vishnu:

1. Vishnu is a status quo maintaining god. This is a disadvantage in the materialistic world.

2. He determines our status by our average skill and thus he is more suited for people at the top.

Krishna - the god of the masses:

The two disadvantages of Vishnu are overcome in the Krishna incarnation, by discarding all components of the Semi voluntary force except the Positive attitude. Thus, Krishna is symbolic of the positive attitude.

This means that Krishna can't be associated with water and conch.

Krishna and the flute:

Krishna is the last incarnation of Vishnu. Buddha is not widely accepted as an incarnation of Vishnu. Kalki incarnation is yet to be seen.

Krishna is a god of the masses. He represents just the positive attitude, which is vital for our survival. We must have a musical instrument, which can take us to our positive attitude, situated at the lowest part of our abdomen. The musical instrument must be such that it is available every where.

Flute is the simplest and the cheapest musical instrument. It is made from a peace of bamboo, which is available everywhere in India.

Thus, we always associate Krishna with a flute, as it is a short cut to our positive attitude.

THE FATHER OF VISHNU

Hindus who believe that Vishnu is the supreme Hindu god consider him as Adibhagavan or eternal god. This means that Vishnu has no birth and therefore no father.

THE CONCEPT OF BRAHMAN AS FATHER OF VISHNU

It is well accepted in Hinduism that all gods originate from Brahman.

According to Manu Smriti Purusha, who is the same as Brahman (Manu Smriti 1.11) is made of seven Maha Purushas. Though not mentioned in Hindu scriptures, we can conclude that Vishnu is the central of the seven Mahapurushas.

Thus, it is tempting to conclude that Brahman, in the real form, is the father of Vishnu.

However, such a concept has no practical use because Brahman is beyond the comprehension of practically all Hindus.

What is the poison lord Krishna drank?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The poison called halahal or kalakuta emergered during the churning of the ocean (known as samudra manthan) which was a great threat to the three worlds (heaven, earth, and hell). To save all living beings Lord Shiva drank the poison, which turned his neck blue, giving him the name Neelakanth (the blue-necked one).
