How often you should you wash clothes?
Socks and underwear should be washed after each wearing. Outer clothes may be worn for two or three days before laundering, depending on the work you do. If you are an office worker or a student, you might be able to go a couple of days on a shirt or pair of jeans. If you work construction or are a mechanic or do other "dirty" jobs, you'll need clean clothes each day.
In hot weather, daily washing is probably essential no matter what you do.
Removing oil stains from clothing?
In order to remove an oil stain from clothing you pretreat the stain and then you wash the garment in hot water. Pretreatment involves blotting up as much of the stain as you can with a clean paper towel, and then following the directions on a commercial pretreatment. You can find pretreatments wherever you buy detergent, and the labels will let you know if they work best on a particular type of stain.
Does putting your shoes in the freezer get of odor?
I actually just tried to put a pair of my stinky shoes in to the freezer to see so that my information would be accurate, and according to my results, no. I believe this is the reason: Body odor is caused by liquid such as sweat. When the sweat transfers on to articles of clothing, it carries the odor with it. So, when you freeze it, it just slows down the moving particles in it. The stink may go away while they are cold, but when they return to room temperature they will be just as smelly. >.<
However, I'm not going to leave you without an answer, so I do have two methods that DO work. One of them is putting a small amount of baking soda in the shoe, placing your hand over the hole, and shaking it. Or you can simply wash them in the washer if they are just like running shoes.

I have had very good results from freezing shoes to eliminate odor. The odor is a result of bacteria, sweat by itself does not smell. By freezing your shoes, you are killing the bacteria living in your shoes and producing that bad odor. Important: You must freeze your shoes for long enough that the bacteria will die. Overnight will probably be okay, but longer is better. If you are using your food freezer for this, I recommend putting those stinky shoes in a sealed plastic bag or container. You don't want the frozen food to taste like stinky shoes. When I did it, I left my shoes outside on the back porch overnight. The temperature at 10pm was 4 F, overnight it dropped below zero. The next day I brought them inside, let them warm up and the stink was gone. I'm sure the fresh air helped too.

What did people use to wash their clothes before the washing machine was invented?
Washboards. From Wikipedia: "The traditional washboard is usually constructed with a rectangular wooden frame in which are mounted a series of ridges or corrugations for the clothing to be rubbed upon. The ridges on the washboard, along with soap, helped to rub the dirt from clothing, in a similar way to steel wool on a dirty pot. Because of washing machines, washboards are now used as musical instruments as opposed to being used for cleaning clothes.
Before the washing machine, laundry was washed using a moving watercourse (stream, river, etc.) of some kind to do laundry. Bats or sticks of some kind were used in conjunction with the watercourse method to beat the dirt out of clothing and such. Another method used was washing laundry by wetting it and then rubbing it on rocks to get the dirt out. Washboards replaced this method. A washboard was a wooden or metal board with slats on it. After soaking the clothing in hot water to help loosen the dirt, people (women mostly) would take clothing and vigorously rub it up and down on the slats of the washboard to loosen dirt and debris.
Please keep in mind that in some parts of the world, washing machines are expensive luxuries that most cannot afford so some of the methods listed above are still used.

I generally added up costs of utilities for a gas water heater, gas dryer, and washer and figure it is about $5 (high efficiency) to $10 (old low efficiency) dollars per 50lbs. (in nyc, to wash on warm cycle) Cost of washer / dryer is $1,000 to 2,000 dollars and should be good for at least 25,000 lbs of laundry or $2 to $4 dollars per 50lbs. total $9 (high efficiency models) to $12 dollars to do it at home.
