How do you tell if a blue bellied lizard is a male or female?
The male has a cup-like depression toward the forward half of the plastron (the bottom shell). It's there so he can mount the female without having to stand on his tail to fertilize her. The female's plastron is flat. Hi, I own hermann's tortoises, a male and a female. Differentiating them is very easy if its properly done - FEMALES have smaller and shorter tails. Their shell is a bit popping out around their legs, what I mean is that the shell doesn't go under like you would suppose (sorry for my english, I'm from Europe...). The reason for that shell is that the males bite them on these poppings. MALES have longer, thicker tails with pointed tips. Also, if both of the animals are the same age, the female is usually a little bigger than the male.
I suggest two different types of lizards for first time owners: Bearded Dragon and a Blubelly Lizard, also know as a Western Fence Crawler. Each has it's own up and downs, which leaves you to decide. Bluebelly Lizards are small lizards that are usually about 6 inches long. Low maintainance and not very sociable, these creatures live in desert and boreal terrain. Insectivore Ups: Low maintainance, doesn't need social care, receives all nurtrients needed from crickets alone, stomach gets darker when angry so you know when to put it away Downs: Not sociable, impossible to tame, may bite, can escape most cages, hard to find if lost, most pet stores don't sell them, gets sick easily Bearded Dragons: Native to Austrailia, they live mainly in desert biomes. When full grown, Bearded Dragons are usually 18-20 inches. Very popular with children. Omnivore Ups: Grows bonds easily with people, can be bought at local pet stores, can't easily escape to to size and wits, when cared for properly, has an extremely strong immune system. Downs: Needs at least an hour of socialization a day, need both vegitables and insects to stay healthy, when sick, they try to hide it, which means that any day you could wake up to find it dead without any warning.

Additionally, the bacteria in its saliva can cause infection in the wounds, contributing to the lethal outcome for the prey.
Lizards can be found in a variety of habitats around the world, including deserts, forests, grasslands, and rocky areas. They often seek out warm and sunny environments to bask in the sun and regulate their body temperature. Some species are arboreal and live in trees, while others are terrestrial and prefer staying on the ground.
Reptiles continuously grow new teeth throughout their lives, a process known as polyphyodonty. As one tooth becomes worn out or lost, new teeth emerge from dental lamina or tooth germs to replace them. This allows reptiles to maintain a functional dentition for feeding and survival.
