Beethoven wrote works on commission for various members of the royal and political families during the 18th and 19th centuries. Until this time the symphonies were corrupted by well-intentioned students that tried to "Wagnerise" the symphonies by making extensive cuts and in some cases, adding their own music. The appeal of Bruckner to the NSDAP was a ready one as Bruckner was a country fellow with a rural aspect to his nature that the proganda of Nazi Germany was all too willing to use for their own purposes. Strangely, Bruckner`s music has not been associated with the Nazis ideals to its detrement as had been the case with the music-dramas of Wagner. Whether this has more to do with Wagner`s anti-semetic writings remains to be answered. Bruckner had no such known opinions but he did regard Wagner`s music as pure genius. The coda to the 2nd movement of Bruckner`s 7th symphony is a farewell to his beloved meister.

Beethoven's last symphony was his Symphony no. 9 in d minor (Op. 125), known as the "Choral" Symphony. However, the final--and most famous--movement of this work is known as the "Ode to Joy."

The average symphony length is around 20-23 minutes long. This was a common length during the Classical and Romantic eras. For each composer it differs as well. I'm just giving a major estimate. Contemporary symphonies for example have drifted away from the common standard length. There is a symphony written by Dr. Michael Wolters lasting a mere 25 seconds including all four movements. The Mahler 3rd symphony lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes! There is a huge difference between the two. Most Haydn symphonies lasted 15-20 minutes like most Classical ones. Beethoven broke the barrier with his 9th symphony which was over an hour when played at the correct tempo. There are many symphonies lasting different amounts of time but overall I'd say the average symphony is 20-23 minutes long with all of it's movements.

Beethoven was probably born on December 16th, 1770. He was baptized on December 17th, 1770. Children at the time were usually baptized the day after their birth. We also know that Beethoven himself celebrated his birthday on December 16th.
