The gate with the warning, the bird watching but not being heeded, all seem so clearly written to represent the garden of eden in the Bible, already with evil having creeped in uninvited but this time Digory resisted the temptation to pluck an apple for his mother. He literally flees with Polly and Fledge and to Aslan. And for that Aslan rewards him.
