i find that either method of use is effective. dissolving it in water causes the drug to move through your blood stream faster and hits the body all at once. swallowing the pill allows time for it to slowly release into your system and will last longer as it is not all dumped in the body at once. either way works but please take as doctor recommends.

Actually, the answer above is totally incorrect. Methadone and Hydrocodone(vicodin) both effect the same area of the brain (opiod receptors) and both stimulate your Endorphines which activate the receptors. Because Methadone has blocking properties, it will clog the opiate receptors in your brain making it almost impossible for other opiates to achieve their desired effect. It is very odd that the answer above says that Vicodin and Methadone connect to different parts of the brain when they are both opiates (broken down chemically they are the same thing).
Is there any med otc that increase the effect of methadone?
I have read a lot of answers to this question and tried them myself, yet, none seem to work in my opinion. Grapefruit juice, tagamet and some HIV medications are supposed to (this will be slightly dumbed down, no offense intended) "shut down the enzyme in your liver that breaks down the methadone in your liver. I tried all of them, with the exception of the HIV meds, and none seemed to make the difference that i was hoping for. It did make it VERY slightly longer, like 5 minutes longer, but, the price of the tagamet (or generic cimetidine(sp?)) wasnt worth the price for that amount of effect.
However, there are those that swear that it makes a HUGE difference in the intensity and how long it lasts in your system. I guess its either a mental thing or your own personal body chemistry. Hope that helps and sorry if it doesnt.

If you havent been reading the back of these things that your taking it should on the syptoms key as you look.
