How can you remove Minecraft texture packs without starting the game?
Just go to the .minecraft folder and go to the texture packs folder and delete the zip file. If the texture pack is inside minecraft.jar, too bad for you. You'll just have to make a recovery folder for your saves, delete all the minecraft files and re-download the game.
I think as of 1.6 and above (final game, not beta) the resourcepacks folder is now where you put or remove the Texturepacks. There is also no more .bin folder to worry about. Do not fool with any of the other folders as Mojang has pretty much done a rewrite of most of the game so there are only a couple of folders you can change things in now.
Don't forget to save your world saves folder before you reinstall Minecraft, you may also want to do a search on which folder you need to save for all your experience points, statistics, Achievements, etc, if you want to save them.
On a Mac go to your User Library, Application Support, minecraft folder, everything is in there.
