Is smooth muscle found in the intestine?

Smooth muscle that helps with peristalsis and the movement of digested material.

What muscle does the plank work?

The traditional plank works out not only your abdominal area, but also your thighs and butt. :) A side plank does all that and works on the muscles in the arm supporting the plank.

What supplement helps to build muscle?

You don't need to take much supplements. All you need are the basics which are Creatine before you work out. After your work out you should take protein or glutamine supplements to help restore your muscles.

Describe the process that cause the muscle to contract?

# When the muscle is in a resting state, thin strands of a protein called tropomyosin are wrapped around the actin filaments, blocking the myosin binding sites. This keeps the myosin from binding to actin. # Molecules called troponin are attached to the tropomyosin. # When calcium is introduced into the muscle cell, calcium ions bind to troponin molecules. # Calcium then pulls troponin, causing tropomyosin to be moved as well, therefore causing the myosin binding sites on the actin to be exposed. # Myosin binds to the now-exposed binding sites. # As soon as the myosin head binds to actin, the head bends at its hinge. # Once the head bends, the myosin loses energy, and remains attached to the actin. # When re-energized by adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the myosin head detaches from the actin filament, and is ready to attach and bend again. # The collective bending of numerous myosin heads (all in the same direction), combine to move the actin molecules closer together. This results in a muscle contraction.

The muscle tissue that shows no striations is muscle?

Smooth muscle contains no striations whereas cardiac and skeletal muscles are striated.

Why does my forearm and bicep hurt when I do hammer curls or pull ups?

They've been hurting since last week, but I really started noticing it last weekend. I could still run, but they'd hurt a bit. I didn't really bring it up much then. Over the week, at school in gym, we do laps around a parking lot and sometimes a track. Wednesday this week, I ran seven laps straight around the track, and after that they hurt like heck. On Thursday, I walked around track. When I tried running, I would run for about two seconds, then stop because it hurt too badly, and I would limp for the next few minutes. This morning, I took a hot shower, and when I got out, my legs (exactly where it hurts when I run) felt like someone poking needles into my leg, or to put it a way someone else could relate to, it felt like I had a really bad sun burn. (1. It hasn't been that hot at all. 2. It hasn't been sunny that much, either. 3. I haven't been out in the sun long enough to get sun burnt.) I had to sit down for a while because it hurt really bad. After a while, the prickling died down (not completely gone, but not as bad), and I was able to walk around again. My family and I went to Walmart. My mom and I lost my dad, so I went running after him. I ignored the pain in my legs, and when I found my dad, my legs had the prickling again, and they felt like they were bleeding (except there was no blood coming out). Later today, when I looked at my legs again, there were a few bruises on them, and I have no idea where they came from.

Is shoulder flexion concentric or eccentric?

It depends on your position and if you are moving with or against gravity. If you are standing up right in anatomical position, and elbow extension is occurring after elbow flexion, then it is eccentric. When the elbow is moving into extension from flexion, it is moving downwards with the force of gravity. In order for this motion to occur, the biceps brachii has to lengthen, and the triceps brachii has to relax. The biceps brachii therefore is your primary mover.

If elbow extension were occurring against the force of gravity (imagine your shoulder is flexed to 180 and your elbow is flexed, and you want to move it into extension while your shoulder is still flexed at 180), then it would be a concentric contraction and your primary mover would be your triceps brachii as it would be shortening to complete the motion. The biceps brachii would be your antagonist and it would be relaxing to allow the triceps to do its work.

concentric= muscle shortening

eccentric= muscle lengthening

I hope this helps. I'm an OT student and this has been drilled into me.

What can cause a muscle cramp?

Generally the cause of cramp is not having enough salt in your diet.

The enlargement of muscles through use is known as?

The Enlargement of muscles through use is known as Hypertrophy.

What is bolus of food?

In digestion, a bolus (from Latin bolus, ball) is a round mass of organic matter moving through the digestive tract. A bolus is initially shaped through chewing and swallowing of food and maintained as peristalsis moves it through the intestines, eventually being released as feces. The term is also used in aerospace engineering, in order to define the characteristics of human feces, especially pertaining to devices for processing its defecation while in space or other flight environmentsis initially shaped through chewing and swallowing of food and maintained as peristalsis moves it through the intestines, eventually being released as feces. What is the thorax?

The thorax usually refers to insects, but it can also refer to mammals. It is the portion of an animal's body between the neck and stomach - in humans this would be the chest area; in insects and trilobites, it is one of the three mains segments of the body.

What can you take for pain after rotator cuff surgery?

Give the shoulder a rest, alternate with ice and heat. Strengthening the muscle around the rotator cuff will relieve the load of movement. Low level laser has also been shown to be effective. Treatment of injured shoulder rotator cuff: If injury is less than 72 hours then local cold pack and Aleve or Advil by mouth. If one can not raise the arm fully then may need to see an orthopedist. Initial treatment is physicl therapy- i.e. to move arm and shoulder to fullest ability and strenghthen the muscles. If Physical therapy does not cure and one can not move arm then a surgery to repair the torn rotator cuff is advised. This may not be a DIY project. What I've done with tremendous success is using a mixture of sheep dip, orange tang, and Vick's vapor rub. The high acidity of the tang mixed with the mentholate and dung has a mysterious pain relieving effect. It has not been medically proven, but over 90% of people who try this process report astounding results. Answer: Rotator Cuff injuries are very common injuries and can persist for years unless treatment is properly addressed. Anyone who has had one will tell you that they are incredibly painful and very hard to heal. The rotator cuff is used to describe four muscle groups in the shoulder area. This muscle group helps to stabilize the joint in the shoulder when the upper arm moves. Once one or more of the rotator cuff muscles are injured it becomes very difficult to recover 100%. It is almost impossible to keep from re-straining the muscles because even in a sling our shoulder can still move. It's just not possible to stop everything and rest the injury properly. Everyone has demands that make them keep going and in the process we prevent the rotator cuff from healing. What ends up happening is we continually reinjure the shoulder through our daily activities. Treatments: Ultrasound and/or Radiant Energy treatments dramatically increase the blood flow and reduce inflammation constant motion is what keeps the blood flowing through that area Cold compression wraps are highly effective at both reducing inflammation and preventing its return in between therapeutic treatments.

What are some different types of muscles?

There are three muscle types, skeletal, smooth and cardiac. Skeletal and cardiac are both striated muscle, whereas smooth muscle is not.

What muscles that lift your head backup?

The trapezius raises scapulaas when shrugging shoulders, and pulls head backwards.

How you get a swollen muscle?

Lots of reasons. You could have injured one, strain, sprain, torn or bruised it. Or, you could have had a workout and you are noticing the increased bloodflow that causes them to be a little swollen. This will go away after a short while.

Name the fixator muscles in a bicep curl?

since the bicep curl is a flexion of the forearm at the elbow, the biceps brachii and brachialis are mainly used, especially in the supinated position. a prone bicep curl uses brachialis and brachioradialis more. the biceps brachii function is much less, since it is also a forearm supinator, so it is deactivated in the prone position.

the triceps brachii are the antagonistic muscle group are not not involved in the bicep curl. the triceps extend the forearm at the elbow.
