How do you beat Mythology Island?

Mythology Island is the 12th island on Poptropica. It opened to Poptropica's paid monthly members on April 1, 2010, and to general free use on April 29, 2010.

----- This solution contains spoilers -----

Entering Mythology Island: Olympus VillageOn this Main Street, the Olympus Museum is at the left, and to the right is Herc's Hero Hut, the gate to Mount Olympus, and the Midas Gym (the multiplayer meeting room). The area to the left is the forest and to the right is the Grove of Temples.
  1. Enter the museum and browse the Greek Mythology history and the various gods and goddesses. The only item to acquire is the Starfish which is on Poseidon's statue.
  2. The gate to Mount Olympus is locked until late in the game. Hercules is in the Hero Hut selling autographs, but nothing in there is ever functional.
The Grove of TemplesGo right from Olympus Village. The temple is to the Nine Muses, who inspire human scholars and artists.
  1. Go in and to the far right there are free Reed Pipes (flutes). Take one and go to the statue of Euterpe (in the group nearer the entrance).
  2. Repeat the song she teaches you note-by-note, and Euterpe will give you a song that can put Cerberus to sleep.
The Tree of ImmortalityLeave the Grove, go left past Olympus Village to the forest. The Tree of Immortality is mostly decoration, and the statues dare you to eat an apple from it (there is only one, and it is in the next frame above the forest).
  1. Climb the steps and go up into the tree. There are serpents you can climb and mushrooms which will bounce you up to the next step. The central area has a "honey" spill which is only barely climbable.
  2. Find the satyr at the top right, who will show you the way to reach the Golden Apple if you collect 10 pots of honey within 60 seconds. There are about three to either side and four down the middle, and it is easier to get the top ones first.
  3. When you go up the hidden path and get the apple, Zeus angrily appears. But he offers you a task, recovering 5 sacred items for him in exchange for your immortality. Looking over the scroll, the items are: 1) a flower from the Garden of the Sphinx - far left, 2) the nose ring of the Minotaur - also left, 3) a scale from the Hydra - Poseidon's lair, 4) a giant pearl - also Poseidon's, and 5) a whisker from the dog-beast Cerberus - in Hades.
  4. After Zeus leaves, you are visited by Athena (his daughter) who warns you about Zeus and offers her help. When you see a glowing olive, it means that there is a helpful hint.
The Garden of the Sphinx and the Cave of the Minotaur

Cross the bridge to the right from the forest. There is a huge creature (the Sphinx) in a garden setting. Wood and stone aqueducts are spilling water about the scene. At the far left is the cave of the Minotaur.

  1. The creature (Sphinx) wants water returned to the Garden. Climb up from the entrance and open the water flow into the aqueduct. There are four control levers and two wooden gates. Once all of the water is flowing into the lake, you can go back to the Sphinx.
  2. You will find the Sacred Flower. Climb above it to a tree with red pomegranate fruits. Collect these and go to the cave entrance.
  3. The lock to the entrance is musical, with eight notes according to the color code of the Reed Pipe : blue-blue-green-yellow-yellow-red-blue-green.
  4. The Minotaur ushers you into his labyrinth, which is large but not particularly confusing. Go across the top until you hit a chain, then straight down from there (not back to the left). There are three challenges in the maze. The first involves a riddle, removing 6 bones from an arrangement of 15, leaving "10" (the nine bones that spell the letters TEN). The scorpion pit requires you to simply jump over him. The Red-Eyed Snake is elusive, but if you have fast reflexes, you can catch him three times as he pops out (peripheral vision is helpful). Your other option is to click at one of the holes for a few minutes until he pops out there (the Red-eye works his way around to all 12 holes every few cycles). There is no indication that you have succeeded until you tag him three times.
  5. Take the ring from the Minotaur's nose.
The Realms of Hades and PoseidonThese two sequences are to the right in the Grove of Temples, and each has a temple interior and a throne room (which you access much later in the game). Because of a special travel item, you should do the Poseidon realm first, then come back to the Hades pit.
  1. Travel all the way back to the Village, and through the Grove of Temples until you reach the realms of Hades (below) and Poseidon (farther right). Use the mud elevators to reach Poseidon's realm on the far right side of the Hades temple.
  2. In the Poseidon temple, place the Starfish on the altar, which opens the entrance to the realm. You will find a beach scene on a blue lake, with bikini girls and even a surfer-dude Triton as lifeguard. You also find Aphrodite, the goddess sister of Athena.
  3. Use your memory to identify five gods and goddesses on Aphrodite's test. (The answers are Ares, Hermes, Aphrodite, Artemis, and Hestia.) She will give you a special touch-screen mirror that lets you travel to and from any realm you have previously visited, without the need for a lengthy hike.
  4. Dive into the lake and swim underwater through the rock maze. The bubbles will give you extra oxygen. Go right near the top of the maze, down the right side to the bottom, and then left to the Hydra Cave. Just above the entrance is the Giant Pearl oyster.
  5. To defeat the Hydra, wait until one of its heads is about to thrust toward you. Jump up before it hits you, and land on top of it to knock the head out. After all five are kayoed, swim down to recover a scale from the creature.
  6. Use the mirror to take you back to Aphrodite, then walk back right to reach the exit and go to the Hades pit.
  7. At the temple, clean the graffiti from the walls to earn a drachma. Enter the temple and place the Pomegranates on the altar (there are some hints about this at the Hero Hut). Enter the realm.
  8. Jump down into the pit, ignoring the cartoon bat. You will find yourself with a boatman on the River Styx, which leads to Hades itself.
  9. As the boat moves down the river, you will find three hazards: falling rocks, fiery skulls, and river monsters. Move backward or forward in the boat to dodge the rocks, and jump over the skulls and creatures. There are multiple sets, usually four. You can sometimes survive a hit, but if you are knocked from the boat, you must begin again.
  10. At the river bank, you will find Cerberus, the three-headed dog monster. Tale out the Reed Pipe and play the 6-note song from Euterpe: blue-green-yellow-blue-red-green. He will take a nap and you can get one of his whiskers.
  11. You now have all five of the sacred items, but you cannot enter the Hades throne room because it is blocked by a large stone. Use the mirror to get back to Olympus Village and go left to the Tree Of Immortality. (If you did Hades first, you cross the river with no dangers, and go back to the surface.)
The Forest: Athena, Zeus, and finally HerculesThe items spell out a secret agenda for the scheming Zeus, who has been trying to wrest power from his brothers Poseidon and Hades.
  1. Athena meets you at the Tree site and tells you to assemble the secret message on the 5 sacred items. Put together, the words spell out "Whoever wields the five sacred objects will rule all of Poptropica".
  2. Zeus appears and steals the items from you, having no intention of making you immortal, intent only on seizing power from Poseidon and Hades.
  3. Athena sends you back to Olympus Village to appeal to Hercules. He finally relents when told of the scheme. (At this point you definitely need the Touchscreen Mirror because he won't follow you on foot.) The two of you use the mirror to go to Hades.
With Hercules to see Hades and Poseidon
  1. Hercules moves the rock from the Throne Room, and you enter to meet Hades. He decides to give you his powerful Crown to use against Zeus.
  2. Use the mirror to travel to the underwater realm of Poseidon, where Hercules opens the rock passage to Poseidon's throne. Poseidon gives you his powerful Trident to use. Use the mirror to take you to the locked Olympus Gate.
On Mount Olympus
  1. Hercules smashes open the lock on the gate and you enter Zeus's realm on Mount Olympus. Unfortunately, the first hazard you meet is Medusa, who turns Hercules into a stone statue.
  2. To the right is a high climb, but there is a way up: you use your drachma to buy a "bag of wind" from the Aeolus Wind Wagon. (Refills are free.)
  3. Reaching the summit, light up the four statues of Zeus to summon him to the final battle. You will use the combined powers of the Crown and Trident, flying and firing lightning bolts against Zeus.
Battle Against Zeus
  1. Use the Trident to fire bolts at Zeus as you fly around. The health meter below Zeus will show his weakening power if you hit him.
  2. Anytime he hits you, you will lose power, as indicated by the pink clouds supporting you. If you lose them all, you must start the battle over. Collect as many little clouds into your cloud as you can.
  3. After you have scored some hits, the process is made more difficult. Zeus begins to glow, and forms a spinning group of glowing white balls of energy. He then releases them at you, and you must dodge them by making evasive maneuvers. (This is like the spinning balls from Betty Jetty, or the razor balls from the Mordred robot.) Your bolts will only hurt Zeus when he is NOT glowing.
  4. If you successfully avoid the bolts and balls, you can score enough hits to reduce Zeus's power to zero. You have won the quest! Zeus returns the sacred items to you. Athena rewards you with the Island Medallion and you have become a hero in the realms of Olympus!

After the fact, you can meet Hades and Poseidon again, and Cerberus wakes up. The maze of the Minotaur has only the scorpion as a threat, and the Hydra is permanently knocked out. Zeus is not seen again after his defeat.

---

Small Glitch: (Poseidon) if you remove either of the boulders (Hades or Poseidon) and do not go in the throne room, and go to the other realm instead -- Hercules may give you conversation if you try to go back to the original location. Move away from him and try again.

Poseidon Throne Room

Some players may find themselves at Poseidon's throne earlier in the game because they run out of oxygen underwater. If this happens, you can get the Trident early, but you will need the Touchscreen Mirror to escape back into the game! Otherwise, exit using the Haunted House card from the Poptropica Store.

How do you defeat Zeus on Mythology Island?

Battle Against Zeus
  • Use the Trident to fire bolts at Zeus as you fly around. The health meter below Zeus will show his weakening power if you hit him.
  • Zeus attacks in at least three ways : a "wind" attack indicated by curving lines, a thunderbolt attack (wide or concentrated fire), and later "head-butting" your character to weaken you.
  • Anytime he hits you, you will lose power, as indicated by the pink clouds supporting you. If you lose them all, you must start the battle over. Collect as many little clouds into your cloud as you can during the battle.
  • After you have scored some hits, the process is made more difficult.
  • If you successfully avoid the bolts and balls, you can score enough hits to reduce Zeus's power to zero. You have won the quest! Zeus returns the sacred items to you. Athena rewards you with the Island Medallion and you have become a hero in the realms of Olympus!

NOTE :

1) Using the spacebar to "light yourself up" does not seem to have a beneficial effect, but it is possible that it has to do with some specific timing event.

2) Collecting the clouds is the single greatest benefit, as at maximum the clouds can withstand hits even by all 6 white spheres. Most dangerous are the concentrated lightning bolts and head-butting attacks.

3) The approximate number of hits to defeat Zeus is in the range of 50 to 70, with his glowing ball attack beginning after about 20 hits.

What is the walkthrough for Mythology Island?

Mythology Island is the 12th island of Poptropica. It opened to Early Access by Poptropica monthly members on April 1, 2010, and to free general use on April 29, 2010.

The following solution contains spoilers for the island.

The object of the island is to collect 5 valuable items, in exchange for which Zeus says he will grant you immortality. You must visit the realms of mythological creatures and Greek gods.

  1. Enter Mythology Island at Olympus Village (Main Street) and go to the Museum of Olympus. There you will see the story of the rivalry of the gods and learn to identify some of the gods and goddesses of Olympus. At the statue of Poseidon, take the Starfish from its face.
  2. Go right to the Grove of Temples, and enter the Temple of the Muses. At its far end, get a Reed Pipe and go to the statue of Euterpe, muse of music. She will test you, then teach you a song that can calm the underworld beast Cerberus.
  3. Go back left to Olympus Village, and left again to the forest with the Tree of Immortality. Climb the steps and up into the branches.
  4. Climb the serpents and bounce upwards on the mushrooms, to reach the Satyr at the upper right. Collect 10 of the honey pots in 60 seconds and he will show you the way to the Golden Apple.
  5. Zeus angrily appears, but offers you immortality if you retrieve 5 sacred items for him from the realms of creatures and gods. As listed on the Sacred Items Scroll, they are : a flower from the garden of the Sphinx, the ring from the nose of the Minotaur, a scale from the Hydra, a giant pearl, and a whisker from Cerberus, guardian creature of the underworld.
  6. Leaving the tree, you meet the goddess Athena, Zeus's daughter, who warns you that Zeus may have secret motives. She arranges for you to use the olive trees as a source of information.
  7. Go left across the bridge to the Garden of the Sphinx. You will have to open the aqueduct switches and push down the two wooden gates to start the water flowing again. Collect the rare flower and pick pomegranates from the tree above the Sphinx.
  8. Use the Reed Pipe at left, playing the eight colored notes on the wheel that opens the Minotaur cave. (blue-blue-green-yellow-yellow-red-blue-green)
  9. Go in and speak to the Minotaur, and enter his Cave Maze. (Athena gives you a glowing thread to keep you from getting lost.) Head for the weapons displays to keep on track. At the Pan bones, remove the bones so that the remaining ones spell out the letters TEN. Jump the scorpion in the pit. Click the red-eyed snake when it appears, three times (hard to spot only that snake - takes some practice).
  10. Take the Minotaur ring and go back right, to Olympus Village. At the Hero Hut, you can ask Hercules for help, but he is uncooperative. Go right, past the Grove of Temples to the lairs of Hades (below) and Poseidon (far right). You can play these in either order, but Poseidon first is easier.
  11. Enter the lair and place the Starfish on the altar to the right.
  12. Go through and cross the beach to meet Aphrodite, Athena's sister goddess. Pass her test to get a magic mirror that allows speedy travel throughout the realm. (The gods are Ares, Hermes, Aphrodite, Artemis, and Hestia.)
  13. Dive into the underground cave in the lake. There are extra oxygen bubbles, but the direct path is across the top, then down the right side, and left along the bottom. Before entering the Hydra cave, go up a bit to recover the Giant Pearl.
  14. Battle the Hydra : when each head stabs out at you, jump up and land on top of it. Swim below to get the scale from it. Exit using the mirror to reach Aphrodite (heart symbol), and walk back right to go to Hades.
  15. At the realm of Hades, earn a drachma from the worker by cleaning some graffiti from the outside of the building.
  16. Enter and place the pomegranates on the altar on the right, which opens the door to the realm of Hades. Jump right into the chasm to reach the River Styx.
  17. On the river ride, avoid the deadly attacks, which will always include one falling stalactite, one flaming skull, and one river monster. Move forward or back to dodge the falling rocks, duck or jump the flaming skull, and jump the river monster.
  18. Reaching the shore, use the Reed Pipe and song (blue-green-yellow-blue-red-green) to lull Cerberus and get a whisker from it. (You cannot move the large rock blocking the Throne Room.) Use the mirror to return to the Mount Olympus gate.
  19. Now that you have all five items, head left to the forest again, where Athena will meet you and you must assemble the Sacred Items to reveal their secret message ("Whoever wields the five sacred objects will rule all of Poptropica"). Zeus arrives and steals the objects from you, and Athena urges you to get Hercules to finally help. He agrees and you go to the Hades throne room using the mirror.
  20. Hercules moves the rock, and Hades gives you his crown to use to battle Zeus.
  21. Use the mirror to travel to the Poseidon lake. Underwater, Hercules opens the rock passage to the Throne Room, and Poseidon gives you his trident.
  22. Use the mirror to return to the Mount Olympus gate, where Hercules smashes open the padlock.
  23. On the mountain, Hercules encounters Medusa and is petrified into a stone statue.
  24. Use the drachma to buy a wind bag from Aeolus at his Wind Wagon. Use it to go upward, then climb the mountainside to reach Zeus's throne. Lighting the four statues will summon him for the final battle.
  25. The Hades crown and Poseidon's trident allow you to fly about as you and Zeus trade thunderbolt attacks. Hit Zeus and his health meter will go down. If he hits you, you lose power, as indicated by the pink clouds that hold you up. If you lose them all, you will fall, and you will have to start over. Gather the little pink clouds as you fly, to replenish the larger cloud.
  26. Like Betty Jetty on Super Power island, Zeus will eventually begin to glow and throw spinning white energy balls at you, and you must avoid them as well as the bolts. He is only vulnerable to your attacks when he is not glowing.
  27. After 6 to 10 sets of balls, you should have hit him enough to win the battle. Zeus returns the sacred items to you, and Athena gives you the Island Medallion.

You can revisit Hades, Poseidon, and even Cerberus and Styx (the river ride has hazards only one way). But Hydra is down for the count, Zeus is not seen again and Hercules remains a statue. The kid atop the Midas Gym is a fan.

Second Walkthrough with some clarifications

This a long island until you see what you have to do. You should find this information very helpful to speed you through.

1. Go and pick a golden apple by going to the far left. Afterwards Zeus will appear and will give you a list of things to collect.

2.Before you get any thing, I would go to the museum to see what happened and to get the starfish on a statue's face.

3.The first thing on the list is the flower. To get that, go past where the golden apple. The flower will be dry and to pick it you must go above and solve the puzzle. You must turn the levers to get the water to flow down. (if it was hard I would explain how to do it)

4. The second thing on the list is the ring from the Minotaur. Go to the grove of temples. There will be a temple for the Muses. Enter and get the reed pipe. ( if you want the statue with the flute will teach you a song) Go back to where the flower was and go as far as you can go. Jump up and see a door. Click the olive, and Athena gives a clue that means play on your reed pipe the song that's on the door. The minotaur will tell you to get the ring, you must go through the maze. Keep going until you find a riddle and the answer is that you leave the bones spread out as the letters TEN. Go down until you find the scorpion. Jump over it. then you will find a snake infested picture. Click the snake with red eyes three times. When the door opens, go through and talk to the beast and he will give you the ring. After you leave be sure to get the pomegranate in that tree. (it is in that same area above the Sphinx and flower).

5. The next two items are in the same place, so I will explain them together. Go all all the way to the right to see the palace of the water god Poseidon. Enter and you will see an offering stand, so place your starfish there. Enter the new door to see a beach. Talk to the pink goddess and she will test you and give you a mirror. Go into the water until you see a dark spot. Click dive and collect air bubbles along the way. You keep going until you come across a cave. Above it is the Giant Pearl. Then go past a sign that says gnarly beast. Go inside, there will be a Hydra. When it tries to attack you, jump straight up and land on its head. And each head that follows. Try to do it quickly or you will have to do it again. After you knock it out, collect the scale from it's body.

6.The last item you will get in the place down below. Ask the worker guy, and clean the graffiti to get a coin. Enter the place and place your pomegranates on the stand. Enter the palace. Dodge past the hazards in the boat. Use your flute to play the following song: BLUE GREEN YELLOW BLUE RED GREEN. Cerberus the three headed dog will sleep. Then just take the whisker.

7. You now must go to the tree where you got the golden apple only to see all your items stolen so Zeus can rule poptropica. Talk to Athena and she will tell you to talk to Hercules again. Talk to him to visit Hades place first. Enter the throne room. Talk to him until he gives you get the crown. Go back outside to meet Hercules. Take him to the underwater maze in Poseidon's realm. He will kick away the rock for you. The king will give you a trident. Go ack to Zeus's place (the Olympus gate) and let Hercules break the lock.

8. Hercules will be turned to stone once you get there. Then finally use your coin to get a wind bag. This will take you up above. Climb your way to the top. When you get there, run past all four statues to make Zeus appear. Defeat him by both collecting pink clouds, avoiding his bolts and attacks, and shooting him. Try pressing the space bar while shooting, you will know why you should do that. When you win, Athena gives you the Medallion.

How do you open the chakra gates?

Only a person who is physically well trained will be able to open them completely. With that you also have to meditate.Ill tell you one-Join your thumb and your index finger tips and enchant the word 'lam'.Concentrate between your anus and your bladder. To check how much of your gates are open go and give the chakra test.

It all requires simple meditation. There is no spell or incantation, or fast way to do it.

It's easy, but it takes time. You need to take the time needed to meditate and completely clear your mind of all thoughts.

When you have reached that state, you simply need to focus on a particular chakra (we'll use the root chakra first), and imagine it as a ball of energy. The colour of it will depend on the chakra itself. The root chakra is typically associated with a deep red.

Imagine the ball small, but then slowly growing bigger and bigger. I usually let it grow until it's about the size of the palm of my hand. Then, just imagine it blossoming. Imagine the energy reaching out and touching things in front of you. Let its energy flow through body; get accustomed to how it feels. Then, bring everything back into the chakra itself, but imagine it still as a large ball. "Tell" it to stay open, and be receptive.

Move on to the next chakra, and repeat the process. This will open up each chakra in time. Just working with them in general opens them up dramatically. But start with the root, and work your way up. Just because the third eye, or crown, may sound more appealing in what they offer than the root, it is essential that you begin with the root and work your way up.

An excellent site that also describes the use of hand gestures, and sounds to open them, can be located at the following:

How do you catch the red eyed snake on Mythology Island?

Fast reflexes and good peripheral vision will sometimes allow you to nab the Red-Eyed Snake in the Labyrinth.

Another way is to pick a spot (click on one of the regular snakes) and wait for the Red-eyed Snake to pop out of the same hole. (She makes a complete cycle of the 12 holes at random.)

You have to catch the red-eyed snake three times, and there is no counter to tell you if you've actually caught her once or twice. (When you get her, her mouth will open and her tongue will stick out.)

Where is the Hydra on Mythology island?

The Hydra is in a large air-filled cave at the bottom of Poseidon's underwater maze. Dive in from the beach, swim along the top, right side, and bottom to reach the cave. The bubbles are oxygen refills, so it is hard to run out. The giant pearl is just outside the cave.

In Detail

Enter the realm of Poseidon through the temple (far right of the island). Use the starfish from the Museum of Olympus to enter the door. On the beach, Aphrodite will give you a test and reward you with a valuable mirror if you pass. (The answers are Ares, Hermes, Aphrodite, Artemis and Hestia.)

The Hydra cave is underwater off the beach. Dive down and swim along the top, right, and bottom of the maze to reach the cave (above the cave is the Giant Pearl).

You can defeat the hydra by jumping up when it strikes at you, and landing on the attacking head. Finish all five the same way before any can wake up. Swim below the Hydra and you can get the scale from it.

Why is it that French is so hard?

French is not difficult it's just like learning any other language ! It's very hard learning a language because we are not familiar with it and we have never used it before, if you study hard at a language it will get easier because you are getting familiar with it and it then will be easier for you to pick up new words.

Some languages are very hard to learn because they are tonal, not atonal like English (Chinese), use different alphabets (Arabic), cases and declensions not found in English (Russian), or sounds not present in English (Bantu tongue clicks). French has none of these problems. It is close enough to English that it is almost an English dialect. This results from a wealth of shared words, Latin origins, a similar alphabet and a familiarity from French words present in English (and in Canada - all Corn Flakes boxes, in fact all products sold in stores, are written both official languages so that even small kids get to practice French every day)
Firstly, it isn't hard... to the french.

This sounds like a flippant reply at first, but understand that it is only difficult because it is unknown to you. When I tutor, I tell the students that there is no such thing as a foreign language. Meaning, that you already know the sounds of the language; you just don't know what they mean in that language. For example: the english words "come on" are the exact same sound as the french word "comment". "Salute" in english is the same as "salut" in french...without the T. Each simply means somethign different in that language.

Secondly, here's where it might get a little difficult. There are approximately 44 sounds to the english language, but only 14-16 in french. This is one reason why the french seem so particular about the language. There are a limitied number of sounds, and if one says something even slightly incorrectly, they might be changing the entire meaning of the word.

Thirdly, english is mostly pronounced in the front of the mouth (which is very interesting because most Americans have very lazy mouths... meaning speech/enunciation). French words are all formed within the throat and mouth. Here are 2 examples of how the french use the throat and whole mouth...... 1 - a good way to practice the french R is to pronounce an H before it. 2 - to say the french word "bon", do not say it at the front of the mouth with the lips emphasizing the B; fill the cheeks with air, then simply open the mouth saying the word.

Bonne chance. [pronounced "bun" "shah-ance"] See, you already know the sounds, just not the words.
