How has the netball change over the past years?
cause they used to wack pigs
netball has changed very much over the years. a couple of changes are;
- the women's outfits. when netball first started, the women's outfits restricted them from carrying out certain moves. they couldn't run or dribble in the outfits so that is partly the reason they changed the rules to no running in possesion of the ball.
- the net. the first time netball was played (at Madame Osterburg's College in 1895), they used baskets for shooting. when a ball was thrown into the basket, the umpire had to go and receive the ball because there wasn't a hole in the bottom. nowadays, the net is on a pole and has a hole in the bottom.
hope i helped :)
What are the five most important rules in netball?
The main rules of netball and things that umpires mostly pick people up for are stepping, obstruction, off side, contact, and off court.
Stepping- In netball you can't run with the ball, but you can pivot on one foot. The first foot that is planted when you catch the ball is the one that stays still. You swivel around on this foot, moving the second foot that landed after you caught the ball.
When umpires pick you up for stepping, you do not have to stand out of play, and someone from the other team will come down to the spot where you stepped to take the pass.
Obstruction- This is when you have your arms up defending your player but you are not a full three feet away. If you are picked up for this you stand out of play, and an opposite player will either pass the ball or shoot.
Off side- Off side is when you step over the line that your position is not meant to cross.
In netball there are 7 players on each side playing on the court. The Goal Shooters and Goal Keepers can only play on the one third that they shoot and defend on. The Goal Attacks and Goal Defences can go up to 2 thirds and in the ring on the side that they are shooting/defending on. The Wing Defences and Attacks can not go into the goal circle, and only play on 2 thirds. The Centre players can both go anywhere on court except for the goal circles.
Off side is when you go out of 'your zone'. The umpire blows the whistle, and you do not have to stand out of play. Someone from the other team will pick up the ball and pass.
Contact- This is any contact on a player who has the ball, or rough play on your player. Contact can come in many forms such as tapping the ball while an opposite player is holding it, touching the ball or knocking your player while they have the ball, and leaning in (when both players are pressing or pushing against each other, the umpire may call for a toss up between the players).
If the umpire picks you up for contact, you will have to stand out of play and the player who you contacted will either take a pass or shoot.
Off court- This happens quite often in games either when someone taps the ball of the court, or someone misses a pass and it goes off the court.
Off court is simply when the ball goes off the court, which, although a very basic and simple rule, happens quite a lot in games.
When the ball goes off court, the umpire will say which team last touched the ball before it went off the court, and then the opposite team will get to take a pass from behind the sideline wherever the ball first went out. If you were the one who last touched the ball before it went out, you do not have to stand out of play, you can just play on.
Another main rule in netball is replay ball, which is when you bounce the ball twice or more. You don't have to stand out of play, and the opposite team takes a pass.
These are the main rules of netball, and once you get used to them you don't even have to think about them!
Personal story: Last year was my first time ever seeing a game of netball being played, let alone playing it myself! I was shocking to start off with, but then I got used to all of the rules and improved a lot. At the end of the season I was given a trophy for the 'most improved' in our club, and this year I play in the top team of my age group!
How many players to make up a netball team?
A maximum of 12 players in a team with 5-7 players on court (a game cannot continue with less than 5 players on court).
Can you roll the game in netball?
No. You can't pass the ball whilst on the ground, you must get up off the ground then resume play. A penalty is rewarded to the other team if you do pass it whilst on the ground. When you get up you may get up normally, try not to step too much but you may do so as you get up but when on your feet you can't step or it is a penalty. Hope it helped! <3

Where can GK go on the netball court?
GK or goal keeper can go in their defensive third only, including the goal circle. they have to start the centre pass in the goal circle and should take majority of sidline/baseline passes in that third. if they go over the third line it is called offside. i hope that helped :)
GD stands for Goal Defence, So that means that you are defending the ball from going in the net.
GD always marks GA who is a shooter, this means that Goal Defence will have to try her best to intercept the pass to GA. It is very important that GD intercepts this pass as if she doesn't then GA has the chance to shoot. Although you have to intercept the pass and throw to WD (wing defence) they can then carry on the pass up to your teams shooting third.
How close can you stand to the goal shooter in the circle?
as close as you want too, although it makes it easier to drive by you

i work it out by saying the line you are standing on, you can go up to the one in front of you and the one behind you. except center, they can go everywhere except the goal circles. hope that helps :)

How does agility help in netball?
Agility helps in netball because it is a fast paced game with many quick changes of direction. If the game changes direction suddenly then a player needs to be able to stop, turn and run in the other direction as quickly as possible. Agility is also helpful if a player intercepts the ball because they need to be able to land, pivot and then throw the ball off to one of their team mates before heading back up the court to their goal end.
Was netball different to how it is now?
Netball was originally derived from basketball and was first known as "women's basketball". It originally just included basic rules and the separate zones and more rules have been added and standardized over time. Most countries that are involved in netball standardize their rules every 4 years to keep up to date with the latest trends.
What positions ae there in netball?
Players do not usually master all six skills, but rather focus on one or more of them in connection with the tactics employed by each team. The most common specialization comprises three positions: attacker/blocker (also differentiated in "outside" and "middle"), setter and liberos (defensive specialist). Generally, taller players with the ability to jump high are utilized as attackers/blockers, where they attempt to block or spike opponents' initial hits and return the ball at high speed on steep trajectories so that the ball lands before the other team has time to react.
* Setters have the task for orchestrating the offense of the team. They aim for second touch and their main responsibility is to place the ball in the air where the attackers can hit the ball into the opponents' court in the easiest way as possible. They have to be able to operate with the hitters with variety and break up the enemy's block. Setters need to have swift and skilful appraisal and tactical accuracy, and must be quick at moving around the court.
* Liberos are defensive specialists, who are responsible for receiving the attack or serve (the dig) and are usually the players on the court with the quickest reaction time and best passing skills. Liberos do not necessarily need to be tall, as they never play at the net, allowing shorter players with strong passing skills to excel. A player designated as a libero for a match may not play other roles during that match.
* Middle blockers or Middle hitters are players that can perform very fast attacks that usually take place near the setter. They are specialized in blocking, since they must attempt to stop equally fast plays from their opponents and then quickly set up a double block at the sides of the court. In general they are the tallest players, but are often less skillful defensive players.
* Outside hitters, also known as power hitters, attack from near the antennas. Since most sets to the outside are high, the outside hitter may take a longer approach, sometimes even starting from outside the court sideline. An outside hitter generally relies on a powerful swing to score, but some offensive plays may call for an angled approach and/or quick attacks to confound the defense. Outside hitters must also master passing, since they generally help the libero in receiving the opponent's serve. A strong-side hitter is an outside hitter that specializes in attacking from the front-left position. This hitting position is advantageous for a right-handed hitter, because the set will come from the right, and can therefore be delivered efficiently to the hitting arm. Conversely, the attacker in the front-right position is the weak-side hitter. Since the set is coming from his left, a right-handed hitter in the weak-side position will have to swing across his body to attack. Thus, left-handedness can be a desirable quality in a weak-side hitter.
It all depends on what roation your team uses. Many teams today use a 6/2 system, which means there are two setters, three hitters (or spikers), and three passers.

What does a referee do in netball?
An official (referee or linesman) is on the ice with the players, they wear a striped jersey to distinguish them from the players. Referees are mainly responsible for signaling goals, stopping play when the goalie covers the puck, when the puck goes out of play. They are also responsible for calling penalties. A linesman on the other hand, watches for Offside and Icing violations and stop play for them. They also conduct all faceoffs (except for at the start of a period and after a goal) Linesmen can also give the referee insight on a play and help to make the final call. A referee pretty much just monitors the game to make sure its as far as possible.
There are a variety of different referee systems, used in various leagues. The most popular is the 1 referee, 2 linesmen system. One referee covers the full area of the ice, while the two linesmen make offside and icing calls. In the NHL, and other pro leagues, they use 2 referees and 2 linesmen. This as helped for the crackdown on obstruction and to have stricter penalty calls. They also use the "two man system" Where both officials act as referees and linesmen.
Theres the 1-1 system. 1 referee, and 1 linesmen. The linesman covers both lines. This, and the two man system are usually used when 1 official doesn't show up.
The 2-1 system. Two referees and 1 linesmen is a newer system just being made popular in the last few years. Not many leagues use this yet.
In non competitive leagues, they use the 1 man system. This doesn't allow for as precise calls.
