The fur industry was extremely profitable. Wearing furs was a status symbol. Wealthy Europeans would pay quite a lot, especially for the furs of animals not common in Europe and being that North America had not been colonized yet, there was an abundance of animals to trap and skin.

The New England Colonies, which were administered by England, included Connecticut, Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, Massachusetts, and the Province of New Hampshire. These colonies were part of the original thirteen, and later became the states of Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. They are part of today's New England, along with Vermont and Maine.

In the 1600s to the 1700s, the New England colonies operated under a form of self-governance influenced by Puritan ideals. Each colony had its own charter and governance structure, typically involving elected assemblies and a governor, though ultimately they were subject to English rule. The Massachusetts Bay Colony, for example, had a strong representative government, while other colonies like Rhode Island were founded on principles of religious freedom and more democratic practices. Overall, the governance in these colonies reflected a blend of local autonomy and colonial oversight from England.

There isn't one religion in New England. In fact, New England is abundant with colleges and universities has conservative and liberal communities as well as an intellectually active character. Those factors attract people from many walks of life, many different countries and many different religious backgrounds. We have all kinds of people with and without religious beliefs. People in New England aren't particularly interested in a person's religious beliefs in contrast to other parts of our country where religion is the prime motivator and huge regions are religiously homogenous.

Though the colonies of America produced many trade commodities, the primary commodities varied by region. The deep South (Georgia and the Carolinas) produced cotton, which remained a valuable export for several hundred years. The Middle Colonies (Virginia and Maryland) produced another cash crop, tobacco. In the North (New England and New York), because the growing season and soil was not viable for large-scale agriculture, relied mainly on manufactured goods. But as Britain was the colonies most valuable trade partner, and Britain was much more industrialized than her colonies, did not receive many commodities from the North, apart from whale oil and furs.

New England is larger as it covers 71,991 square miles where as England only spans 50,346 square miles.
